KATHLEEN (KAY) GRUNDY (nee ROBINSON) How lucky we are to have had someone in our lives that makes saying goodbye so incredibly hard. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend passed away peacefully on November 7, 2016. Her lifelong devotion to family will leave her lovingly missed by daughter Joann; son Steve and wife Jan; grandchildren, Seane (Lacey), Kyle (Kaloni), Charmayne, Blake (Katie) and great-grandson, Mason. She will also be dearly missed by her sister Elsie (Matt); brothers, Lew, Joe (Lil), Claude and Wendell (Darlene); as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by husband John, parents Victor and Hazel, sisters Violet and Alice, and many sister and brothers-in-law. Kay was born August 23, 1922, and raised in the little town of Georgeville, Quebec. After graduating school, she headed to Montreal where she worked as a nanny for a foreign Ambassador, followed by employment at the Northern Electric producing radios during the Second World War. During this time, she met the love of her life, John, who was an Air Force Flight Sargent on leave. She made quite an impression and they were married in Georgeville on July 6, 1946. Following the wedding, they moved to Winnipeg, where they began their life together. Kay worked for several years at the Bay Downtown before starting her family. Later she returned to work at Eaton's where she worked until retirement. Over the years she developed many wonderful friendships through work, church, social and neighborhood activities. She treasured time spent playing cards or just visiting with family and friends. She loved entertaining, whether it was a large gathering for holiday dinners, or a friendly visit. There was always plenty of food and lively conversation. She always had something to say whether telling a story or stating her opinion. Her main love was her family. She was the family glue, and time spent with her grandchildren was so very special to her. Always ready to be there, giving never-ending love, caring, and showing her devotion to everyone. We hold you close within our hearts And there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives Until we meet again. A celebration of life will take place Thursday November 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • As a "Friendly Visitor" volunteer with Age and Opportunity in Winnipeg, I visited Mrs. Grundy every couple of weeks for at least two years. I recognize all of the names of her family members because she told me the current news of their daily lives and I also heard about her childhood memories. Based on her memorable stories, she had a wonderful, long life. A special memory for me is that she treated me to a meal down in the dining room of her apartment building for a few holidays where I sat with her and her friends. I moved away from Winnipeg in 2011. I've thought about her many times over the years. - Posted by: Nanda Dao (friend) on: Mar 10, 2025

  • I have many fond memories of Kay as I grew up in Georgeville. The Robinson family was a significant part of a very happy childhood and it was good to reconnect from time to time in Winnipeg. My condolences to you all - Posted by: Margaret Sellers (childhood friend) on: Nov 15, 2016
