Date of Passing: Nov 12, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAUREL LEE HAMMOND-TYLER Laurel Lee Hammond-Tyler of Winnipeg, Manitoba, died peacefully on November 12, 2016 in the presence of her husband and children. Laurel did not lose her courageous battle with cancer, rather, she won it the only way she could-by escaping its grasp and forever leaving it behind. The loved and cherished wife of Robert (Bob) Tyler, mother to Drew, Brock and Andrea, 'mother-in-love' to Julie and Karmyn, and Nana to Rowan, Ezra and a grandson she was delighted to know would arrive in January. She is also survived by her mother Amy Hammond, and brothers Barry Hammond (Gladys) and Byron Hammond (Sherry), her sister-in-law Wanda Weselowski (Jerry), sister-in-law Faith Bartmanovich (Dan), brother-in-law Ross, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Ed Hammond, mother-in-law Doreen Tyler and father-in-law Duane Tyler. Laurel is remembered as a generous, compassionate, supportive, loving, wise and kind person. She taught all of us to look for the simple joys in life, to see beauty, to nurture a love for learning, to be gracious to others, to be a lifelong learner in faith, to laugh, to love and to live well. She was born in Seattle, Washington in 1954 and lived with her family in many Canadian prairie towns in her early years. After marrying Bob in 1977, they settled in Portage la Prairie where their children were born, eventually moving to Winnipeg in 1991. Of her many accomplishments, Laurel considered her greatest was her family: "I love raising my kids - I consider it my only work that will go on." A public celebration of Laurel's life was held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Westwood Community Church in Winnipeg. A private interment has taken place at the Oakville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honour may be made to House of Hesed (www.houseofhesed.ca). THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Bob - so sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest condolences. Having been welcomed into your home for a "work" gathering and met your lovely wife - I'm so sorry to hear of both her battle and her escape from same. Praying for peace and strength for you and your family at this time. Hope you are able to take the time to enjoy the loving memories as you deal with the day to day issues of the loss of her physical presence. Take care. - Posted by: Donna Riedel (Former co-worker of Bob) on: Nov 21, 2016

Somehow, though I sit here in shock learning that Laurel is now with Jesus, it does not surprise me that even in our most recent communication I did not learn of her illness. Instead she was there being an encouragement and friend to me! From the moment we met Laurel's calm, nurturing and trusting spirit has been a blessing. Bob, Drew, Brock and Andrea, my prayers will continue with you in this painful adjustment to separation for a time. But there is HOPE . . . we will all be together again soon. Love to you all. - Posted by: Ramona Bruckner (Friend) on: Nov 20, 2016

We are sad to hear the news of Laurel's passing. Wasn't expecting that quite so soon. Our condolences to Bob and the kids and Laurel's siblings and mother. It is not easy for a parent to bury her child. We are so thankful for a Savior who has prepared a heaven for us. This is not the end but a beginning. She will be missed, never replaced. Thankful to have known her. - Posted by: Judy and Dan Girs (Cousin) on: Nov 17, 2016

When I first met Laurel she was a beautiful teenage girl but what impressed me most was her warm, calm spirit. I encountered this spirit again in our final communication when she expressed concern for me and my situation. Knowing we shared a common health problem, we acknowledged that we continued to live in God's grace and wished each other well. May Laurel's beautiful spirit live on as we remember her. - Posted by: Darlene Hammond (By marriage) on: Nov 16, 2016

I was shocked and saddened to read of Laurel's passing. I worked with Laurel about 15 yrs ago and thoroughly enjoyed her company. Just last week I was thinking about her and wondering how she was. I even tried looking her up on Facebook. Condolences to her family, rest in peace Laurel. - Posted by: Shauna Klimchuk (Coworker/friend) on: Nov 16, 2016
