GERTRUDE (TRUDY) SABO July 30, 1931- November 13, 2016 It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Trudy Sabo on Sunday, November 13, at the age of 85. Trudy was predeceased by her husband, of nearly 62 years, Chuck Sabo in August 2013, and her nephew Jim McArthur, September 2015. She is survived by her children, Jack (Karen), Randy (Irene), Charlene (Don), and her grandchildren Kelly, Andrew, Steven, Courtney, Craig, and Lauren (Kurtis); as well as longtime friends Wally and Dorothy Jones, and Les Lycan. Trudy and Chuck married on December 7, 1951. They spent summers at their cottage in Grand Marais from 1959 to the present, where they loved to be with their children and grandchildren. They made several trips to Australia to visit their son Jack and his family. She belonged to "girls club", for over 60 years and got together with the same group of ladies to sometimes knit, but mostly just visit. Trudy had a great sense of humour right up until the end, when she joked Chuck was "up there" waiting for her to make him a sandwich ...toasted! Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 18 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke, or Kidney Foundation. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 HENDERSON HWY 204-338-0331 Condolences may be sent to www.klassenfuneralhome.com

  • Dear Family... In memory of Mrs. Trudy Sabo... We were saddened to hear of Trudy's passing. At this difficult time may friendship, love, sympathy, and heartfelt condolences reach out to you. We played darts out of the Coronation Bowling Alley in St. Boniface and Chuck and Trudy were warm hosts to all participants in the league. Good times were had by all!! Their support enabled us to represent Manitoba in the World Dart Championships in Vegas in 1993. We also loved the invites to the cottage in Grand Marais, and we all shared lots of laughs playing horseshoes. We have beautiful memories of a beautiful lady. Knowing that we have been able to be a part of Sabo life means that we have been truly blessed. Take good care now. • My memories of Trudy Sabo begin at a young age when my Aunt Edwina introduced me to Charlene so we could both have someone to play with at Grand Beach. And so began my relationship with my second Mom. Surrounded by dachshunds, a cat named Jock, and then Dobermans, this was a woman who loved animals. She is the only person I knew who could love a dog with a severe underbite and a cat that would not come out from under the couch. She was always surrounded by family and friends, like Wally and Dot, both on 4th Avenue and in Grand Marais. Like my family, she grew up on those sandy beaches and fell in love there too. She gave many lectures as I grew up. "Don't read the graffiti in the "Biffy"out loud, especially the swear words; the song is called African Benny, not a F- ing Benny, and don't stare in our back door when we are having dinner, we are still eating. Charlene will be out after the dishes are done." Being impatient, I usually helped. She let me bowl for free at the family owned Transcona Bowl, hosted horseshoe competitions in her back yard adjacent to the Morrisons, then in Grand Marais. She drank Molson's beer in support of Chuck's work, knitted me a scarf and mitts, sewed Char and Me matching halter tops, and was always gentle, motherly, and mannerly. She was loved by everyone and I loved her to pieces. We shared Harlequin romance books and sang I'd like to teach the world to sing in her kitchen on Huntington Drive while waving tee towels in the air. I'd write more, but the most important thing about Trudy is that she was a family woman and I was honoured to be part of her family. My love and hugs to you, Char. I wish I could be there for you. Someone give my best friend a big hug from me. She needs it! My sympathies to the family. I love you all.
