MAUREEN KACHMAR February 23, 1939 - November 17, 2016 After a long, but mostly pain free battle with Alzheimers and cancer, Maureen had her last breath next to her husband of 57 years, Michael. Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Art and Marion Martin. She is survived by her husband, her brother Murray (Susan) and her sister Glenys (Dave), her nieces and nephews, her sons, Warren (Arlene), Glenn and Reid, and her grandchildren Anne, Taylor and Michaela. Maureen was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Rouge. She enjoyed sports in her youth and was a lifelong artist as well as being skilled at many different crafts. Maureen also faced challenges. She experienced polio, Guillan-Barre Syndrome, Alzheimers and cancer twice. Maureen took great joy in helping others. Her career as a social worker included work with children, seniors and the differently-abled. Her care of others included extensive volunteer work and her legacy will include decades of work with the Guillan-Barre Society. We express our gratitude to the staffs of Middlechurch, Poseidon and Riverview care homes for their loving and respectful care. We also wish to thank the many family and friends who visited and brightened her days. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church on 603 Wellington Crescent. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to donate to the GBS Society or the First Unitarian Universalist Endowment Fund. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I was saddened to read of Maureen's death in the newspaper. I met Maureen through the post polio organization here in Winnipeg and had a close connection with her when she was on staff at the ILRC together with my husband Allan. Maureen was a very caring, compassionate person. She was always interested in new studies on the late effects of polio. She freely shared her knowledge and expertise with many people. My condolences to all of Maureen's family. - Posted by: Clare Simpson (Friend) on: Nov 24, 2016
