ETHEL MAUD AMMETER (MACKENZIE) May 27, 1926 - November 22, 2016 After a long and courageous battle with cancer, our beloved Mom passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Carman Memorial Hospital. She will be missed by her sons, Rodney and Terry, and daughter-in-law Karen, her beautiful grandchildren, Nicky and Geoff, Ryan and Krista, and Jason and Kayla, and her great-grandchildren, Isabel and Blake, to whom she was lovingly called "GG." She was predeceased by her mother and father, Pearle and Irvy Mackenzie, her brothers, LeRoy, Arthur and Earle, and her sisters Eileen, Edythe and Betty. Ethel grew up in PEI where she attended Prince of Wales College. She then worked for the RCAF followed by a school teacher for seven years. She moved to Manitoba to follow her teaching career, which is where she met the love of her life, Alvin. They married in 1954, and bought a house south of Starbuck where they farmed. They later moved west of Starbuck, closer to the rest of the family, where their homestead remains today. Ethel was an active member in our church, and spent many years as a member of the ELCW, choir, and lunch committee, as well as taught many years of Sunday school and confirmation. Family was everything to Ethel, and her absence will weigh heavy on our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Trinity Lutheran Church. Service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Starbuck, MB on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., interment to follow. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Mrs. Ethel Ammeter will always be remembered as a woman who love her family above all else and served her community with an open heart. Ethel Ammeter taught me mathematics during summer holidays, helped me to understand and respect the words of our Lord during confirmation classes, and was one of the reliable voices in our church choirs. I never will forget the influence Mrs. Ammeter had on me as I grew up in Starbuck. She welcomed my sister Patty and me into her home when many others shunned us being newcomers to the community. For this and many other things I always will remember, respect, and be grateful to and for Mrs. Ethel Ammeter. - Posted by: Karen Guenther (Friend) on: Nov 23, 2016

  • Dear Terry, Karen, and Rodney, I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I want you to know that she was one of the best Sunday School teachers that I ever had. I remember enjoying choir with her as well. I always was so happy to see her when she came to shop in Guenther's store and I was behind the counter. She would always share stories and make her shopping time in the store such a treat for me. She was a very special lady and I know that you will miss her. My sincere condolences.
