MAUREEN (BETTY) ELIZABETH GORDON (née RYAN) July 18, 1945 - November 23, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Betty Gordon on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Betty was predeceased by her parents, James and Violet Ryan (née Saunders); brother Jim Ryan; husband Ken, and her grandson Alexander. She is survived by her sisters Sharron (Ed), Carol, and Patricia; children Ken (Pam), John (Marcia), Derek (Tanya); grandchildren Leslie (Samara), Ewan, Chelsea, Quinn, Keefe, and many close family members and friends. Betty was born in Prince Albert, SK and raised in Winnipeg, MB. She attended Isaac Newton and Sisler High Schools. She went on to work for the next four decades at MTS, starting as a telephone operator and then as a scheduler. Betty was a kind, wise, and no-nonsense Mom to her three boys (and their friends and spouses). She also exhibited these traits in her marriage, as an aunty and as a grandmother. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met and was a person people just liked being around. Betty retired in 2000 and filled her time with her family and her many passions, including reading, needlepoint, baking and genealogy. She traveled North America, Ireland and the UK in her retirement years looking to fill all the leaves on her family tree. We wish to express our endless thanks to the EMS and staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their compassion and excellent care of Betty and those at her bedside. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an organization that can help someone less fortunate than you who needs a hand up. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Betty was truly an amazing and wonderful person, an inspiration to so many of us, and my big sister. all of my life I had a big sister beside me, someone to laugh and cry with, to confide in and share sister secrets. Betty was my pillar of strength, a shoulder to cry on, a loving hug and the occasional kick in the pants too, Betty was always there to show her support no matter what. So many, many memories. I don't have the words to express this feeling of loss with her sudden passing, only that I love you and miss you so very, very much Sharron - Posted by: sharron ryan (sister) on: Nov 30, 2016

  • The first time I met your Mom I was amazed at her energy and incredible youthfulness. She was always a joy to be around and saying goodbye after each visit just made us look forward to seeing her again. Please rejoice in the amazing mother you were blessed with. Love You All Always. - Posted by: Trent and Lynn (Friends) on: Nov 26, 2016
