STANLEY CHURA 1915 - 2016 Peacefully on November 27, 2016 Stanley Chura passed away at the age of 101. He leaves to mourn his children Barbara Sobetski (John), Norman (Connie) and Judith Chura-Habing (Les); also his grandchildren John (Heather) and Brett (Rayeann) Sobetski, Jill Chura, step-grandchildren Tracey (Dave) Gill, and Reid (Tasha) Habing, great-grandchildren Rory, Kyra, Dayne, Austin, Keiran, Jenna, and his sisters-in-law Kay Brunet, Louise Malegus and Moira Malegus. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Olga. Stanley was born November 20, 1915 in Cloverleaf, MB to Michal and Katryzyna Czura. He was the last surviving of 10 children: Nick (Anne), Mamie Protosavage (Ted), John (Kay), Frank (Alexandra), Casey, Nellie Ruchkall (Joe), Lily Lucko (Walter) and two infant siblings. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Nikita and Mary Malegus, John and Lena Malegus, Josie and Bill Stanko, Peter Malegus, Nick and Sophie Malegus, Mike and Eleanore Malegus, and John Brunet. Stan grew up in the Cloverleaf-Eastdale area. He ventured out to the big city where he met the love of his life, Olga. They were wed in 1947, returned to the farm and so began a full and adventurous journey together. Stan and Olga farmed until he reached the tender age of 90. He also owned and operated a gravel truck and drove school bus for the Transcona-Springfield School Division for many years. Stan attended mass faithfully and he proudly served with the Knights of Columbus for over 25 years. Family was of utmost importance to Stan. He thoroughly enjoyed attending weddings, socials and dances; he loved to entertain, and loved to scout out where the action was in his many travels whether it be a beach, festival, casino or auction sale. So now Dad's time has come. May he rest in peace. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 516 Atlantic Avenue, Beausejour. There will be a viewing at Sobering Funeral Chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory may do so to a charity of your choosing. Mr. Chura was a friend of my grandparents so when he picked me up for my first day of school - in kindergarten - he walked me to the back of the bus, sat me down with the grade 12 kids, and told them to look after me because if anything happened to me he'd come looking for them. He made school that much less scary and for that I have always been so thankful. All first time students should have their very own Stanley Chura. My condolences to your whole family. - Posted by: Kim Suggitt (Harasymec) (family friend) on: Dec 01, 2016
