IOLA EDITH KEHRER It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Iola Edith Kehrer, nee Rezansoff, on December 6, 2016 at St. Boniface Hospital. Surrounded by her family, Iola left us on her birthday after 76 wonderful years. Iola is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Tony, her daughter Catherine (Paul) Campbell and sons David and Glenn (Kimberly). Cherished grandchildren are Allison and Lauren Campbell, Florian and Jordi Haskerkehrer and Caroline, Kaitlin and Anthony Kehrer. Iola is also survived by her sister Naida and her husband Jim Kalmacoff. She is predeceased by her parents Alex and Mabel Rezansoff, her brother Sid Rezansoff and daughter in law Pamela Hasker. Iola was born on December 6, 1940 in Kamsack Saskatchewan. She grew up on a farm in the Stoney Creek district south of Kamsack. She attended McGillvary School and the Kamsack Collegiate Institute. At the age of 17 Iola traveled to Winnipeg to attend the St. Boniface Hospital school of nursing. She graduated in the spring of 1961 and began her long career of nursing at St. Boniface Hospital. Iola and Tony were married in 1961 and three children were soon to follow. Life was very busy raising a family but after a brief break she continued her career in nursing. Iola was a true professional, natural leader and she had a strong work ethic. She would soon become a head nurse, nursing supervisor and later an integral member of the planning department at the hospital. It is in that position Iola helped to transform and update many departments at St. Boniface Hospital. Iola finished her career at CancerCare Manitoba. Family always came first for Iola. She was an incredibly loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye and she was proud of all of their accomplishments. Mom's legendary Sunday dinners were filled with love and will always be remembered. Iola had many interests including reading, going to the theatre, playing bridge and travel. Mom and Dad were fortunate to spend many winters with their friends in Palm Springs, California. Mom enjoyed keeping in touch and getting together with her classmates from high school and nursing. Mom was an exceptional woman balancing family life with her career. Her love and fine example will live on for many generations to come. We are very grateful for the exceptional care mom received from the health care staff at the Health Sciences Centre 5GH and the St. Boniface Hospital palliative care unit. A celebration of Iola's life and reception is planned for December 20, 11:00 am at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford St. Winnipeg. Private interment at Chapel Lawn to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.

  • Iola was my 'big sister' when I entered the nursing program at St. B. She helped guide me through putting on my multi-layered uniform for the first time and taught me how to fold the nursing cap. She had a wonderful smile that lit up her whole face. Our condolences go out to Tony and family. We are not able to be present at the celebration of her life as we are visiting our daughter and family in New Jersey.
