DEBORAH LYNETTE POKRANT
Born: May 01, 1953
Date of Passing: Dec 05, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEBORAH (DEB) LYNETTE POKRANT (nee ZIRK) Peacefully on December 5, 2016, in the Middlechurch Care Home in Winnipeg, Deb lost her courageous five year battle with Picks disease at age 63. Deb was born on May 1, 1953 to her late parents Martin and Hilda Zirk of Glenmoor, MB. After graduating from Beausejour High School, she moved to Winnipeg where she studied business administration and began her 40 year career in government and Red River College. She served the last 30 plus years as the Executive Assistant to the President and had been Secretary to the Board of Governors. Deb was known as a brilliant and trusted administrator with exceptional business acumen, a meticulous organizer and she was respected by all her colleagues and staff. She loved fishing, golf, curling, ATV and snowmobile riding, gardening, music, singing, art, photography and decorating. She especially loved her short time spent at the cottage before her illness took over. Deb used her skills and talents working alongside her husband Hartley building furniture, houses and their recently built cottage which they so enjoyed doing together. Her long time curling, golf, theatre and dinner girlfriends held a special place in her heart. Family time was important to Deb; shopping trips and regular outings with her sisters, visits with brothers and large family gatherings gave her much joy. She was a very loving and caring wife and mother. Deb was especially proud of son Justin and all his activities, accomplishments, career and watching him start his own family with Jina. Seeing her grandson Rowan on visits brought a big smile to her face. Deb is survived by her husband Hartley of 40 years, son Justin (Jina Pagura), grandson Rowan, brothers Orlando (Ann) Zirk, Kurt (Kathy) Zirk, sisters Annette (Herb) Frailick, Patricia Zirk-Woligroski (Ron) and Peggy (Chris) Orr and numerous nieces and nephews. Deb left this world far too soon with so much more left to give and so much yet to receive from all her hard work and dedication. Special thanks are extended to Deb's compassionate care aide angels and nursing staff at Middlechurch Care Home in Winnipeg and to her sister-in-law Valery Czarnecki for her help and understanding during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deb's name to The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. So sorry to hear of Deb's passing. We had many good times with your family at Mark and Ingrid's. She was a very kind person with a great sense of humour and a great scrabble player. Your family is in our thoughts. - Posted by: Carol and Dave Wiebe (Friends) on: Dec 12, 2016
