Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET WATT (nee SUMMERS) July 2, 1918 - December 7, 2016 Violet (Vi) Catherine Watt aged 98, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, at the Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Violet graduated from Kelvin High School in 1936. While raising a family of six children, she began an administrative career in 1965 in the Admitting Department of the Winnipeg General Hospital (now Health Sciences Centre). After her retirement in 1983, she pursued her lifelong dream of travelling, which took her on cruises to the Caribbean and Europe, where she connected with family in Scotland and England. Our dear mother will forever be known for her love, support and dedication to family. She treasured time spent with each and every member and generation. Sunday dinners, birthdays and other gatherings were always marked with a feast. As well as cooking, Vi loved to bake. It was believed she made the best scones outside of Scotland, on a griddle her mother had brought with her from the "Old Country." She also enjoyed reading, knitting, and playing an active role in the United church, particularly with organizing and contributing to the ever- popular bake sales. Violet faced the many challenges in her life, including the loss of her mother at the age of 13, with strength, courage, and determination. Through it all she never lost her sense of humour and welcomed a good joke or story. Left to lovingly remember and cherish Violet are her children, Allan (Marjorie) Watt of Grand Marais, MB, Betty (David) McCrea and Bruce (Diane) Watt of Winnipeg, Janet (Robert) Lafleur of Chelsea, PQ and Kathleen (Martin) Davies of Calgary, AB; her nine grandchildren, Alison Watt, Ryan (Aimee) Watt, Lori (Shaun) Mott, Leslee Watt, Meghan (Michael) Neeley, Paul André (Alyssa) and Marc Alain Lafleur (Emmalyne); Lindsay and Gavin Davies and four great-grandchildren, Owen and Kade Stanley, Weston Mott and Lilah Watt. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Helen Summers who immigrated from Scotland; brother John (Maude) Summers; sister Jean (Tom) Dixon; former husband, Gordon Watt and her eldest son, C. Gordon Watt (surviving partner Elaine Paulson). A family memorial service will be held in the HH Barber Chapel at Calvary Place in Winnipeg. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire First Floor staff and Chaplain Henry Schultz at Calvary Place for their caring support of our mother these past few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Place Personal Care Home, 1325 Erin Street, Winnipeg, MB R3E 3R6 or to a charity of your choice.
