JERZY (GEORGE) JOZEF BACZKIEWICZ Jerzy (George) Jozef Baczkiewicz, beloved husband of Halina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at the age of 61 years, after a brief illness. Left to treasure George's memory are his cherished wife of 24 years, Halina; his brother Andrew; sister Jolanta (Roman); sister-in-law Elizabeth (Stanley); brother-in-law George (Joanna), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jozef and Genowefa. George was born in Pila, Poland November 18, 1955. He immigrated to Canada in the late 1980s and ultimately settled in Winnipeg's North End. In 1992, after trying his hand at a few different careers, George found his true calling and second home at Paramount Windows. He spent the next 24 years as both a valued employee and extended family member to the ownership at Paramount. He made a lifetime's worth of friends with his good nature, infectious laugh, willingness to help and homemade sausage. George thought of his fellow employees as more than co-workers, they were his family. For George, the only commitment stronger than to Paramount was to Halina. They were, and forever will be, the definition of soul mates. Whether during long walks at Kildonan Park, afternoons in the garden on Rupertsland, nights on the couch with the cat (George Junior) or countless Sunday drives, they were inseparable. Together George and Halina built a life grounded in respect and love for each other. The bond they had was unbreakable. Even in George's final weeks, Halina was his constant companion. George felt safe with her. Halina felt safe with him. George will be with Halina always, there to keep her safe. For those who are able to attend, viewing and prayers will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in St. Andrew Bobola Roman Catholic Church, 541 Marion Street with Rev. Fr. Sebastian Gacki presiding. A private Interment will follow. Pallbearers will be George's friends and co-workers, Darren Dudeck, Stephen Glover, Chris Mussell, Claude Pattyn, Francisco Umali and Edward Utko. George's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at Health Sciences Centre GA 4th Floor. Your care and compassion for George was very much appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2A-1717 Dublin Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3H 0H2. Leaves and flowers may wither, The golden sun may set, But the hearts that loved you dearly, Are the ones that won't forget.
