Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD WILLIAM THOMPSON September 15, 1930 - December 12, 2016 On December 12, 2016, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Don passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and George Thompson, his brothers, Laurie, Jim and Chuck. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Katharine (Kay) (Fawns), of 62 years, three daughters, Dawn Thompson, Laura (Patrick) Burns, and Joan (Richard) Stolar, eight grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer), Jessica, Josh (Haley), James (Michaela), Rachel (Curtis), Stephen, Rebekka (Kent) and Graham, great-grandson Zachary, brother Russell, sisters-in-law, Joan Sutherland and Ethel Stewart, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Don was born on September 15, 1930 and raised in Norwood. He began his working career at Crane Supply in 1950 where he met Katharine and retired from Emco Supply in 1991. During his retirement years, he spent most days walking through Assiniboine Park, spending time at his various grandchildren's activities, babysitting his grandchildren, playing Bridge, watching a movie or two on TCM and some travel with Katharine. Don was a faithful member of Silver Heights United Church. Thank you to the staff at Grace Hospital, 3 North, especially Matt and Sarah. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Don Johnson presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 2T4, Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice. Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue. Full obituary to follow. Dear Kay and Family, We were so saddened to hear of Don's passing. We have happy memories of our time at Silver Heights United, especially Choir and the Choir Dances and parties. Don always had a smile on his face and Kay, if there had been a prize for best dancers, you and Don would have won.
