JAMES NEWTON HODGSON 1928 - 2016 His love of sports, cards, dancing, television and farming has ended with the peaceful passing of Jim on December 14, 2016 at Boyne Lodge in Carman, Manitoba. His skill in all of these past times stood him in good stead and lots of jokes, such as 'you're so lucky'. He quietly accepted life as it was, but worked hard to make it as good as he could. Predeceased by his father and mother Newton and Marion Hodgson and sister Berna Adams, he leaves to remember him his wife, Marion of 63 years, his family: son Brian (Deb) and children Linsey (Darren) and Evan; daughter Gwen Jacobsen (Wayne) and children Kris (Raelynn) and Grant (Jordan); son Reid (Colleen) and children Karen (Steven) and Jack (Mallory). Two great- grandchildren Payton and Mac, sister Melva Burnett, brother-in-law Ray (Ina) Adams, sisters-in-law, Isabel Curwain, Merle (Ed) Boyd and Ruby Hammond, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was interested in coaching baseball and hockey, later on as a spectator. For many years he was involved in Roland United Church, the School Board, the Pool Elevator and the Curling, Golf and Friendship Clubs. He and Marion travelled to many countries and enjoyed so much, a cruise with all of the family, then slowing down, went south in their motor home plus many golf trips. Wherever he travelled he was never so happy as when he got home to see his family and friends. Home was the best and now he's come home where he'll meet those past family and friends. Thank you to the caring staff at the Boyne Lodge for everything they have done for Jim and our family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Roland United Church or The Boyne Lodge. The service will be held at Roland United Church on Monday December 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our deepest condolences to Marion and family. I remember the great times I had playing cards with Jim, Marion, Brian & Calvin during the bonspiel season. Great memories and much laughter. - Posted by: Allan & Evelyn Gogush (Friends) on: Dec 20, 2016

  • My condolences to Marion and family. I remember, many years ago visits between our families and the laughs and stories. Jim and my Dad were long time friends who curled together and brought home trophies. Those times were filled with smiles and good times, I guess they will be dusting off the curling rocks together again. - Posted by: Kelly Seward (family friend) on: Dec 19, 2016
