ANDREW MICKEY SHYMKIW On December 17, 2016 Dad decided our jokes were no longer funny and his agenda called for a date with a beautiful woman in the clouds. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his children Brian (Brenda), Diane (Mark) and Nancy (Dan), and nine grandchildren who made Gede's life better. A keen observer with a quick wit, Dad was predeceased by much of his family. Broken hearted for 15 years, we know his reunion with Mom will be movie moment worthy. Dad was everything good and leaves a little bit of himself in each of us. Andy was an exceptional photographer and was often teased about the rolls of film he just never got developed. He worked for CPR for 43 years as a switchman. Retiring in 1993, he began his quest to starting multiple projects and completing almost none of them. Always the center of attention on the dance floor, Dad was a master craftsman who single-handedly built his home from the ground up. An avid sportsman with a love of the outdoors, he made a lifetime of friends with his good nature, twinkle in his eye when he was telling a great story, and willingness to help at any time. He loved easily and hugged always. Dad taught us that hard work is worth the effort. He loved puttering around the house, spoiling his grandchildren and a home cooked meal. All followed by a couple of donuts. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 (today) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rossdale, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andy's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. He traveled where he wanted to travel, learned what he wanted to learn, fixed what he wanted to fix and loved who he wanted to love. We "like like" you and we will miss you forever. VICHNAYA PAMYAT. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
