HERBERT SMITH February 25, 1936 - December 20, 2016 With great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, dad, opa, uncle and friend, Herb. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Margery, his much loved children Donna (Brooks), James (Irena) and Deidre (Jeff), and his beloved grandson Braeden. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Esther, Lily and Walter (Elaine), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Emellia (Rattai), and siblings Bill, Hilda, Albert, Harry and Anne. Family was the foundation of Herb's life. His and Marge's love and support for each other was incredibly deep. He was very supportive and patient in raising his children, always making time for them, and keeping the bonds of family strong. When Herb became an opa he delighted in caring for and playing with his grandson Braeden. His favourite times were spent together with his family at the cottage. Herb was a very kind, fair and wise man. He was always quick to lend a hand to help others. He had a great sense of humour and was a terrific story teller. He will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Reception will follow. • We are very saddened to hear that Herb has left us....although he will never leave our hearts or our minds. We will always remember his sage advice.
