DeGAGNE It is with sorrow that Dad passed from this life at 90 years of age in Winnipeg, MB. on December 18, 2016, at the St. Boniface Hospital. He went peacefully and with his family by his side to begin a new journey with God. Charles was born in St. Boniface on February 5, 1926 and is survived by his wife of 66 years Armelle (Gauthier); sons, David (Brenda), Richard (Cathy) and daughter Dianne (Norman); and grandchildren, Dirk, Dana (Shane) and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Carter. He was the tenth child of fifteen children and the youngest boy. He was predeceased by his parents Cyprien and Ernestine (nee St Laurent), infant Victorin, Raoul (Eva deceased), Hermas (Lenore deceased), Denis (Connie), Origene (Pearl deceased), Janet (Alfred deceased), Alma (Louie deceased), Priscilla (Lucien deceased), Lilian (Albert deceased), Isabel (Alan deceased), Doris (Rudolph deceased). Survived by Rita (Dick deceased), Delores (Art deceased), and Rolande (Alec). His in-laws predeceased by Germaine (Florent), Maurice (Lucille), Gerry (Doris). Surviving in-laws, Marie Paule (Oliver deceased), Marguerite (Paul Emile deceased, Fred deceased), Aline (Leon deceased), Yvette (Bob), and Giselle (Eddy), and numerous nephews and nieces. Dad enlisted into the Army in 1945 following in the footsteps of his brothers Hermas and Origene and his brothers-in-law, Art Kline and Dick Greenway. After the Second World War, Father returned to work with the CNR and filled many positions at VIA Rail including Dining Car Steward, Sleeping Car Conductor, and Road Inspector. Stories of his rail adventures flood our memories and lives, and will forever entertain everyone he shared these with. Dad had many friends and took particular pride in hosting social events at home in Manitoba or whenever he and Mom wintered in Mexico, Texas, and California. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at Winnipeg in the Spring of 2017 where family and friends can gather to reminisce on a life that was full and had a lasting impression on many. In lieu of any flowers or gifts a donation can be made to the Salvation Army in Charles' name.
