CHARLES WHITEHEAD 1923 - 2016 Peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at the age of 93, Charles passed away at Kin Place Personal Care Home. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Brenda (Don), precious grandchildren Jeff (Trish), Marissa and Curtis, and great-grandchildren Kendra, Jesse, Drew, Dylan and Chase, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his wife Elsie, parents Hartle and Leora Whitehead, sister Kay and husband Mac Fish, sister-in-law Beatrice and husband Roy Sterling, brother-in-law George Butland and son-in-law Richard Poseluzney. At the age of 18 Charlie enlisted in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic stationed in Claresholm, Alberta. He then moved back to Winnipeg to work at Eaton's as a painter where he met and married Elsie Butland. They moved to Oakbank in 1951 where he went to work at Springfield Motors and then at Sellen Brothers as a bookkeeper until retiring. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club, and also spent time curling at the Dugald Curling Club. After retiring, Charlie and Elsie enjoyed 20 years at their winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Thanks to all the staff at Kin Place Personal Care Home who provided love, care and support to Charlie. The family would also like to give special thanks to Linda; Charlie always looked forward to her visits and lit up when she came into the room. At Charles' request cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at Green Acres. Flowers are gratefully declined and in lieu a donation in Charles' memory may be made to Kin Place Personal Care Home, Box 28 - 680 Pine Drive, Oakbank, Manitoba, R0E 1J0 or to a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of your dad's passing. We knew we were one of the "big kids" when on that "special" day Charlie would bring us our very own baseball glove. Oh what a happy day... We also loved it when Charlie would take us to the Oasis to swim; he sure could swim! To this day, I think of his sage advice about how to not hit your head on the end of the pool when doing the backstroke. Charlie was a steadfast neighbour, and he will always be fondly remembered. - Posted by: Alison & Ron Sellen & Guy Wilde (Neighbours) on: Jan 01, 2017

  • We're sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad, our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Ed and Lil Palidwor (Family Friend) on: Dec 24, 2016
