OVE SKOVGAARD 1916 - 2016 On Thursday, December 22, 2016, Ove Skovgaard passed away peacefully, at 100 years old, with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his loving wife Herdis in 1991, who he had missed deeply for all those years. He leaves behind five children, one stepdaughter, 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Ove was born in Vonge, Denmark on December 10, 1916, joining six brothers and two sisters. He married Herdis in May of 1948 and had their first child. Ove left his wife and daughter in Denmark and with 50 dollars in his pocket, he came to Canada to find a new life, a job, and a home so they could join him here. He started a business, General Machine and Welding in St. Boniface. He built that into a successful company with many projects still visible in Winnipeg today. He met many supportive people along the way. Ove then changed careers and started another business, Action Industries and Action Power Sales, where he worked happily with his son and son-in-law until his retirement. His mother told him don't lie, don't cheat, don't steal and don't swear. He lived by those words his entire life. His strong values have influenced and shaped his family and people around him more than he knew. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and doctors at Seven Oaks Hospital, particularly the Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit on the 3rd floor. Ove told us every day "I am well taken care of here" and "these are special people". Memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, P.O.
