DONALD MOUSSEAU August 4, 1946 - December 21, 2016 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Mousseau announce his passing at Riverview Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be forever cherished by his devoted wife and constant companion of 48 years, Lorna; son Chris (Jill, children, Garrett, Wyatt and Everett) and daughters, Tammy (Brett Watson, children, Devona and Paige) and Nicole (Dan Clemo, children, Roman and Everly). He is also survived by siblings, Anita (Phil Levesque), Lise (Garth Drake) and Denis Legros (Margaret); sisters-in-law, Jean and Ida, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Gabrielle, father Esdras and brothers Norman and Charlie. Don was a man of family, faith and friendship. As a resident of St. Boniface and a graduate of Otterburn High School, his inquisitive mind and passion for knowledge took him to the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a Bachelor of Education. Don then devoted the next 35 years moulding minds across Manitoba, which included stops in Laurier and Pine Falls, before returning to Winnipeg and the St. James School Division. After retiring from teaching, Don continued to give back by assisting the residents at Vista Park Lodge with everything from home repairs to lending an ear to those wanting to share a story. Don was also an avid outdoorsman, an exceptional handyman, and a devoted volunteer in the community. While his career ended a few years earlier, Don continued to teach us all what it is to be a loyal friend, a supportive father, a fun-loving Pépère and a proper Christian. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the help and support of the following people: Dr. Gingriche and Cheryl at HSC, The Home Palliative Care Team as well as Dr.Garcia and staff at 3E Riverview Health Centre. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of St. Timothy, 135 John Forsyth Road, with reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. It was a great honour to be neighbours with the Mousseau family on Valade Street from 1958 on.I have many great memories of both Don and Norm from that era. It was a different time when you knew every every one on the street. It was also our privilege to be next door neighbours with Don and Lorna at Bird River. Don always showed what a kind, generous and knowledgeable man he was. If a neighbour had a problem,it became Don's problem.I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to Lorna and the family on Don's passing. - Posted by: bob savage (friend) on: Dec 29, 2016

I have very positive memories of Donald as a young boy living on rue Valade. He always smiled and was always enthusiastic about going out to play ball at parc Lavérendrye or sponge hockey at Collège de St Boniface. He always showed gentleness and kindness. We could not have wished for a better neighbor. I offer his family my sincere sympathy during this difficult time. - Posted by: Albert Plamondon (neighbor) on: Dec 28, 2016

To Lorna and Family: Our deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family during this time of mourning Don's passing. We saw Don as a truly devoted family man who loved helping others. Don was a man with a big kind heart and a great sense of humour. We will fondly remember our fun evenings and card games spent in Arizona. He was the best " hand and foot " player. He will always be in our thoughts and sadly missed. Dennis & Lorraine Ashworth - Posted by: Lorraine & Dennis Ashworth (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2016

Lorna and family: I extend my heartfelt condolences for your loss. The news brought immediate tears to my eyes as childhood memories of the cottage at Bird River and also our homes in St. Boniface came to mind. Donnie was one of my favourite cousins and there were a whole wack of them in our family! - Posted by: Jo-Anne Thompson (Cousin) on: Dec 28, 2016

Some comments from Don's students at SJCI Barbara Mills He was a fantastic French teacher and kind person. I bumped into him at a store a few years ago and we had a nice chat. He will be missed. Derrick Neufeld Derrick Neufeld Sad news indeed, I remember Monsieur Mousseau as a good and caring man, with a smile and twinkle in his eye, who made a difference. My French speaking abilities have never extended much beyond my grade 10 abilities, but to this day I surprise myself, and my kids, with how much I have retained--and for that I credit this man entirely. Jackie Cohen Mr. Mousseau helped develop my appreciation for different languages. Enjoyed his classes very much. My condolences to his family. RIP Monsieur. - Posted by: Tom Dercola (Colleague) on: Dec 25, 2016

The world is a little sadder place this week with the loss of my dear friend Don. For the past 46 years since we met, he was always there for me and anyone else who was in need of words of encouragement or that "helping hand". A true gentleman who gave way more than he took, along his journey through life. As Bob Hope used to say;..."Thanks for the memories" Don; we'll meet again. My sincerest condolences to all the family at this difficult time. - Posted by: Wayne Wright (Friend) on: Dec 24, 2016

To Lorna and the family; We offer our most sincere condolences on Don's passing. He was a kind and generous man and we spent many many hours together playing cards and telling stories of life and of the cottages; both his Dad's and his own. He will be missed.
