LYNNE (GAREZ) RYAN February 18, 1943 - December 23, 2016 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Lynne Ryan. Lynne died peacefully on December 23, 2016, surrounded by her family and supported by the Medically Assisted in Dying (MAID) team. Lynne was 73 at the time of her passing. Lynne will be sadly missed by her wife Kathy Jones; sons Sean (and wife Kate Davies), Brennan, and Teague; first husband James; and many close friends and extended family. She was predeceased by her sister Lea, and her parents Harold and Freda Garez. Lynne was born and grew up in Winnipeg and was a popular psychologist in the city. She received her Undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba, married Jim, and had three children. While raising her children, she completed a Masters in Education and shortly after took her family to California where she studied at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Lynne's time in California influenced her personal and professional life and she spoke fondly of her experiences there. After returning home Lynne became a private practitioner with a large thriving practice. She also mentored numerous students, most notably Teressa Grosko, who remained a close friend until Lynne's death. Lynne was fiercely loyal to her partners and children. She loved decorating her house and working in her garden. She could be found working in her garden most afternoons even after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. It was Lynne's wish that there be no service. Instead, she asked individuals to remember the children in their lives in lieu of flowers for her. She will be interred at Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • For almost fourteen years Lynne's been my guardian angel, always strong, always encouraging she's been the most significant influence in my life. Over the years I came to realize there was no "professional front", Lynne was an amazing person with immeasurable depth and compassion. Lynne had the ability to make someone feel safe, the hero of their own story and proud of who they've become through lifes challenges. Lynne always made me feel more than her Tuesday afternoon. In every sense Lynne was a talented, caring psychologist who enriched the lives of many people through her career which lives on passed down through Teressa and others she's mentored. My deepest condolences to Sean, Brennan, Tague, Kathy and Teressa. Especially these last few months with Lynne made me realize how powerful a bond can be, the way her voice softened when she mentioned her sons or how happy she was to see Teressa succeeding, and to feel such a strong connection in her marriage. For me Lynne played all these roles time to time as part of the job, but along with that she brought her own humanity and I truly feel for your loss. - Posted by: Mike () on: Jan 10, 2017
