Born: Nov 14, 1937
Date of Passing: Jan 02, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD MICHAEL HUZARSKI November 14, 1937 - January 2, 2017 It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, and friend, Richard (Dick) Huzarski. Born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg, Dick was a gifted child and learned to play the accordion at an early age, a passion he cherished throughout his lifetime. He attended Isaac Newton High School where he met his wife, Barbara. The two married soon after graduation in July of 1958. It was then that Dick began working with the Canadian Pacific Railway as a machinist. Their son Jim was born in 1962, followed by their son Dan in 1965. A few years later, in 1968, Dick and Barb moved the family to Pilot Mound, MB to embark on a new venture in the hotel business with Barb's parents. They returned to Winnipeg in 1970 to lay down permanent roots in East Kildonan. Here, Dick rekindled his career as a machinist, this time with the Canadian National Railway, working in the Transcona Shops and eventually retiring as a railway supervisor in quality control in 1992. Both Dick and Barb were fortunate to enjoy an early retirement and quickly adopted a relaxed and carefree life that included an abundance of travel across Canada and the United States. They were well known to quickly pack a bag, jump in the car, and head off into the sunset to destinations unknown; they thoroughly enjoyed their time together on the road. Their trips included many memorable vacations such as their 25th Anniversary in Hawaii with their close-knit group of friends and their trip to Europe in 1997. Along with traveling, Dick enjoyed many hobbies and was constantly in his garage and workshop lovingly handcrafting many items for his family and friends. His lifelong passion for music and entertainment continued to flourish throughout his retirement. He often played his accordion at Holy Family Nursing Home, where his mother was a resident. His talent quickly blossomed into joining a number of local bands that would entertain residents in nursing homes, social clubs and many branches of the Royal Canadian Legion. As passionate as Dick was for his music, nothing filled his final years with more pride and overwhelming joy than his two amazing granddaughters, Sarah and Megan. Not a day would go by without him smiling from ear to ear at the mention of their names or the sounds of their infectious laughter as little girls and then as young women. After 51 years of marriage, in 2009, Dick lost his one true love, Barbara. He persevered with a brave face and strong conviction but with a heavy heart. Despite his loss, he quickly adapted and made a new life for himself by making new friends and acquaintances, which he had always done so easily throughout his entire life. Dick was predeceased by his sister, Joanne, in 1942, his father, Michael, in 1989, his mother, Stella, in 1994, and his wife, Barbara, in 2009. Left to cherish his life and legacy are his two sons: Jim, his wife Evelyn and their daughter Sarah; along with Dan, his wife Lisa and their daughter Megan; as well as many extended family members and friends. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all of the staff and caregivers at Kildonan Personal Care Home over the past year for giving Dad a warm and welcome environment, especially to Lucy, Allan and Marcie. Flowers are graciously declined. If friends wish to honour Dad's memory, please consider a donation in Dick's name to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will follow at a later date. A memorial service celebrating Dad's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg. Thank you, Dad, for a lifetime of cherished memories that will live on forever.

I had the good fortune of getting to know Mr. Huzarski when I moved in next door to Jim, Evelyn & Sarah in 1995. For the next 12 years until they moved, he was always "hanging around", smiling, telling a joke or giving advice on fixing things around my house. He was always jovial and friendly and I was sad to hear of both his and his wife's passing. Thanks to Jim, Evelyn & Sarah for sharing your Dad/Grandpa with me! - Posted by: Mendy Wolchock (Neighbour to Jim, Evelyn & Sarah) on: Jan 07, 2017
