GWENDOLINE LIDDELL 1914 2016 Gwendoline Liddell went to her eternal rest at Grace General Hospital on December 29, 2016 at the age of 102 years. Gwen was predeceased by her mother Bertha Viola and father Andrew Liddell; her stepmother Mary Liddell; and her brother Andrew Glen Stewart Liddell. She is survived by her niece Glennis Annie Liddell and nephews, Landor and Lorin, as well as several great nephews and nieces in Alberta. Gwen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on October 27, 1914. Her early schooling was in Winnipeg, following which she went to the U. S. to study at Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She went on to Macalister College where she majored in Education and taught for many years in Gilbert, Minnesota, where she became part of the Schmitke family who have remained dear friends throughout her life. Upon her retirement, Gwen returned to Winnipeg where she enthusiastically volunteered her services for many years. While in the U. S., she was involved with the Girl Scouts and on return to Winnipeg worked with the Girl Guides Trefoil Guild, committing a combined 55 years to their service. She was a longtime and well-regarded member of Bethesda Church, leading the seniors group and assisting with the AWANA children's programme. Gwen was also involved in her community, delivering meals on wheels and generously giving of her time to Health Sciences Centre Volunteer Services. During her 20 years at HSC, she clocked in more than 3,000 hours and was awarded the Robert Crampton Award for outstanding volunteer services in 1997. Gwen was recently recognized by The Evangelical Alliance Mission for her longstanding support of missions. For over 70 years, she supported the work of Bach Christian Hospital and Murree Christian School in Pakistan. Many thanks to the staff on 3 South at Grace Hospital for her care over the past weeks and to the Portsmouth where she received support over the past many years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethesda Church, 1350 Grant Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed in her name to the Bethesda Missions Fund, Bethesda Church, 1350 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3M 2A7, or to the charity of your choice.
