DIANNE DENISE HAMILL It is with the heaviest of hearts the family of Dianne announces her passing, at her home in Oakbank, on Friday, January 6, 2017, at the age of 42 years, following a brave battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her husband Trevor, their two sons, Jack and Luke, as well as her mother Jocelyn. To say Dianne was unconventional would be an understatement. With her dry, sarcastic, and often dark sense of humour, she was unique in everything, unorthodox, and always breaking the norm. At home she was always creating weird songs, loved to sing, paint, draw and write. Dianne was also unconventional in her medical treatment and rehabilitation. She always wanted to be treated and viewed as a person instead of a patient. She was a fighter. Her strength was immeasurable. Dianne was part of Women: Redefined, a book project showing what breast cancer looks like after surgery. In the book, Dianne's quirkiness, strength and stubborn nature were on full display, as rather than hide what cancer had done to her, she wanted to show off what she had done to cancer. "It does not define me, but it does empower me." When asked if anything positive came from the experience, she wrote, "Appreciation of life and how much stuff we worry about truly doesn't matter - something everyone says, but few truly understand." She is with Grandpa Jack and Walter now. Life must end, Love never does - Mitch Albom A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Avenue West, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. www.seasonsfunerals.ca

  • Dear Trevor, Jack and Luke, I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss of Dianne. My thoughts are with your family. The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains….. For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains. …. • The last time we talked, Dianne told me: 'The Lord is stronger than any giant you face'. I can't believe she's gone. This is but one example of many of how amazing she was. Even during her own battle she found time to bring me comfort in mine. From teenage girls in French class to team mates at the Gasthaus Gutenberger restaurant to mothers and to warriors in this battle of life, we saw each other go through so many different rights of passage. I will miss you Dianne Hamill. I will miss your humour, your wit and your bravery. I will pray for your young sons and your husband and all who love you that we may find peace in the knowledge that you are now at rest. You fought hard. You will never be forgotten. I'm sorry that I'm in BC otherwise nothing would stop me from saying farewell in person. My deepest condolences to Trevor and Luke and Jack, as well as all her other friends and family. - Posted by: Lori Nakashima (Friend) on: Jan 10, 2017

  • Dianne interviewed me when I first came to Springfield 14 years ago. Years later I got to work with her at the Clipper and was treated to her sharp, observational sense of humour and her love of community. Early last year Dianne won first place at the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association awards night for her story on a Springfield woman who overcame her own health challenges. It was written with sensitivity and grace. - Posted by: Tony Zerucha (co-worker) on: Jan 10, 2017
