DANIEL (DANNY) SECKY With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, Danny on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the age of 38 years. Left to mourn Danny's memory are his loving parents, Frank and Dagmar Secky of Winnipeg, and numerous relatives in Czech Republic. Danny was born in Liberec, Czech Republic on February 24, 1978 and came to Canada with his parents in 1984. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with his Bachelor of Education in 2001 and enjoyed his teaching career. Danny was passionate about cycling. He also had received his 4th level black belt in Tae Kwon Do from the K.S. Cho Tae Kwon Do College. Another favourite pastime was photography. I was shocked to hear of Daniel's passing. I got to know him through a group of people who gathered regularly to practice speaking French. He was such a lovely person to talk with, always had a smile on his face and an interesting story to tell. He was genuinely interested in others and always made an effort to engage newcomers to our group in conversation. He will be missed...my condolences to his family. - Posted by: Marianne Niesink (friend) on: Jan 13, 2017

David and I met Dan through the cycling community and had the opportunity to travel together with Dan and other cycling friends, to France in 2007. We have many fond memories of our rides together. Our thoughts are with Dan's family and loved ones. David Hubbard and Donna Wunderlich, Fairmont BC - Posted by: Donna Wunderlich and David Hubbard (Friends) on: Jan 12, 2017

I have a heavy heart along with our Taekwondo family. Mr. Daniel Secky whom I have known for over 15 yrs as a martial artist and also a great mentor and friend. Has passed away Jan. 5th. Some of our members remember Mr. Secky whom volunteered his time to do our promotion test. Some of our members remember him as their teacher in public schools. He is one person I model from and showed me how to be humble but yet still be powerful. Rest in peace my good friend and now you have eternal life. My condolences to the family and God bless! - Posted by: Julius Banares (Friend) on: Jan 12, 2017

I cycled many times with Daniel on the Randonneur series that we participated in. He was a very strong cyclist and loved it so much. In 2007 we shared a room when we did the PBP ride in France. He was a terrific cycling companion, always upbeat especially when facing some horrendous conditions and an excellent roommate (in spite of the snoring). He was quite proud of his Czech heritage and we had several conversations about history, and the Czech automobile industry. I have many fond memories of Daniel and wish to extend my condolences to his family. - Posted by: Dean Zimmer (Friend) on: Jan 12, 2017

I was very saddened to hear of Daniel's passing. I taught Daniel in Grade 3/4 at Sir John Franklin School. What a wonderful student! I especially recall how good he was in Spelling. I later met Daniel after he had become a teacher. He substituted at my school, John M. King. I called him in a few times to substitute in my classroom. He was a real gentleman. - Posted by: June Pospishell (former teacher) on: Jan 11, 2017
