Mom was born in Kendall, Saskatchewan on January 24, 1925, moving to Winnipeg three years later. When she was 14, she moved with her family to a farm in Okno, north of Arborg. Edith married Jon Jonson on July 12, 1947. They farmed just southeast of Arborg for many years and raised nine children. In 2004 she moved to the Assisted Living in Arborg. Mom's first job was baking at the Riverton Hotel, where she perfected her baking skills, making cinnamon buns and donuts. She enjoyed gardening, cards, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She always had time for coffee and visitors and also time to host many family gatherings or events. Edith was predeceased by her husband Jon; three brothers, Gus, Andy and Emanuel; one sister Margaret and son-in-law Don Hyde. Mom is survived by her children, Doreen (George), Gary (Judy), Ingrid (Brian), Colleen, Judy (Donnie), Cheryl (Dwayne), Glenn (Valerie), Clint (Maria) and Wendy (David); 28 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Kay and Laura and many nieces and nephews. A family gathering to celebrate her life will be held in early summer with a private burial at the Geysir Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Geysir Cemetery or the Arborg Assisted Living Building Fund. MacKenzie Funeral Home Arborg 1-800-467-0024 info@mackenziefh.com
