JAMES (JIM) STUART FARGEY It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Carman, MB. Jim was predeceased by his father, J. Arthur Fargey; his mother, Edna Stuart Fargey; his siblings, Bruce, Evelyn, and Wilbert; his son, Barry, as well as May Fargey. Left to cherish Dad's memory are his children, Gerrie and Glenn of Winnipeg; Ken and Liliane of Carman, and their children Frank and Tania (Kaitlyn, Braylyn and Mackenna) of Winnipeg and Lisa and Tony (Ayden and Alexys) of Calgary; Diane and Mike of Oshawa, and their children Julie of Toronto, Jocelyn and Will of Edmonton, and Karen of Toronto; his brother John and Gail of Mississauga, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born in La Riviere and split his time between the farm and sports. He embellished his age to join the army on October 14, 1941 and went overseas in October 1942. In May 1944, while serving with his brother Bruce in the Second Armoured Regiment (Lord Strathcona's Horse), Dad was seriously wounded in Italy and eventually returned to Canada in November 1944. Dad wrote and received top marks for his civil service exam and worked for the Post Office for a couple of years before switching to Customs and Excise where he remained for over 34 years, retiring December 29, 1979. He served on the Executive and as President of the Customs and Excise Officers Association for many years. Dad married May Stones in September 1947 and moved to Norwood where he raised his family and was very involved with the Norwood United Church. He enjoyed gardening, travelling, and Scottish Country Dancing, and was on Folklorama's original organizing committee. In 1985, Dad moved to Carman and immediately signed up for golfing, curling, bridge, and square dancing. He also became very involved with the Legion and was awarded a Life Membership in 2003. Throughout his life, Dad was always seeking betterment through reading, studying atlases and bridge manuals, having season tickets to the theatre and the symphony, and respecting and observing nature, birds and animals. The funeral is to be held on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Doyle's Funeral Chapel, with a reception to follow at the Legion. Interment in La Riviere will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 18 (Box 98, Carman, MB, ROG OJO), or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the Boyne Lodge, 2nd floor, for such wonderful care, as well as Marnie Fry and her caring staff at In Good Hands for all they did for our father.
