KATHERINE PELECK April 24, 1929 - January 15, 2017 It is with deep sadness, with her family by her side, that we announce the peaceful passing of Katherine (Kay) Peleck (nee Sawatzky) on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 87. Now Mom is finally at peace in Heaven with her beloved husband William (Bill). Katherine (Kay) was born on April 24, 1929 in the RM of Hanover to Peter and Anna Sawatzky. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) in 1982; her parents, Peter and Anna Sawatzky; her companion John Tolhurst in 2010 and eight siblings. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Bob (Susan), Jim (Meredith), Don, Kathy (Hugh) and her four grandchildren, Kristen (Brian), Jessica, Justin and Kaitlyn and her two step-grandchildren, Amanda (Ben), Sherry (Jay) and great-granddaughter Kayleigh. Mom is also survived by her eldest sister Agatha Voth, plus many nieces and nephews. Mom married Dad on June 23, 1951 in Winnipeg and together they celebrated 31 years of love and friendship. Our mother was a dedicated mother and grandmother who nurtured everyone with love and patience. Fond memories of fun-filled family gatherings will be forever treasured. In addition to raising her four children, she worked as a seamstress and did alterations in our home. She had a real gift for sewing and made many an outfit including wedding dresses, formal wear and everyday clothing. In 1979, Mom obtained her Grade 12 Equivalency Certificate from Red River Community College and at age 50 began her career at Boeing of Canada where she worked for 15 years as a Plastics Technician until her retirement in 1994. In 1985 Mom met her companion John of 25 years, where they spent time cruising and busing to many interesting destinations. After John's passing, Mom began to show signs of Dementia and was eventually moved to Oakview Place Personal Care Home in 2014, where she resided until her passing. A Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A private family interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery in the spring. A special thank you to the entire third floor staff at Oakview Place Personal Care Home for their continued kindness and excellent care they provided Mom for the past two years. Sincere thanks to the ER staff at Grace Hospital for their caring and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Katherine can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • We just wanted to say how sorry we are to hear of your loss. Cousin David Lenchyshyn called us from ON to alert us to the passing of your mother. We remember visiting her with Elmer's Mom, and meeting some of you there from time to time. She had a gift of hospitality, welcoming us warmly and serving us great baking etc.. We had heard she was not doing that well a while ago, sorry to hear of her passing, but praying you are comforted that her struggle is over, and wishing you all peace. - Posted by: Elmer and Brenda Funk (nephew) on: Jan 21, 2017

  • I remember meeting Mrs. Peleck several times over the years and remember her kindness and how happy she was when she was with her family. May your happy memories of mom sustain you all in the days ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. - Posted by: Loretta Gratton (friend of the family) on: Jan 21, 2017
