MARY SANGER (nee JACKSON) On the morning of January 13, 2017, with her family close to her, Mary Sanger (nee Jackson) passed away peacefully at the age of 94. Mary was born to Arthur and Mildred Jackson in Leeds, England on June 9, 1922, coming to Winnipeg with her family in 1923. She attended Lord Selkirk School and St. John's High School, the Dominion Business College and Red River College. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Herb Sanger, whom she loved dearly. Mary and Herb met while working at the City of Winnipeg and married in 1945. She is also predeceased by her brother Ron Jackson, her sister Vera Gladu and her good friends Ruth Mackling and Rene Kerns. She leaves to cherish her memory her two children Jeana Sanger and Peggy Madden, grandchildren Andrew Sanger (wife Krista) and Wayne Sanger (wife Sara), Gwen Sanger, numerous nieces, nephews and families, Millie Rae, John Dwight and wife of England and friends Donna Banting, Beth Cook and Doris Woodward. She was delighted to have met her new great-granddaughter, our precious Ilaria. In her younger days, Mary taught Sunday school, CGIT and was a founding member of Westworth United Church. She worked briefly for Great West Life on what was probably the first computer in Winnipeg. Having obtained her Swimming Instructor's rating and Red Cross certification as a Life Guard, she helped for over 25 years at the YWCA as a volunteer with the swimming program for children with disabilities and with infants. Mary was a gentle, kind and loving person with a lovely sense of humour. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, playing bridge and traveling; only finding time to take up reading in her later years. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family wishes to thank the staff of Golden West Centennial Lodge who provided a loving and caring home for her during the last five months of her life. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made to the Herbert and Mary Sanger Fund of the Winnipeg Foundation. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Dear Peggy and family, our thoughts are with you and your family to honor your mother/grandmother. We have decided to donate to our animal rescue in Mary's honor. - Posted by: Carina Kirk (friend of Peggy) on: Jan 22, 2017

  • Peggy & family, we were very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I guess I met here as early as 1965 and always thought very highly of her. Always a very nice lady, even when we were drinking tea in her kitchen and giggling like idiots. You are in our thoughts at this difficult time. - Posted by: Ginny Brown & John Willcock (School friend (Ginny)) on: Jan 18, 2017
