MARGARET ISOBEL MCMORLAND (nee FLEMING) January 29, 1917 - January 10, 2017 Peacefully Margaret McMorland passed away at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg just shy of her 100th Birthday. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1990, her parents Jessie and John Fleming and many close sisters and brothers-in-law. Margaret is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Ruff (Wayne), Patti Cameron (Jim) and Kathie Smith (Jim). She will be sadly missed by her "fourth daughter by choice" Cathy Todd. Margaret is also survived by her brother-in-law Alvin Dickens and sister-in-law Barbara McMorland as well as step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Margaret's parents immigrated from Scotland and settled in St. James where she attended Linwood School and later graduated from St. James School, completing Grade 11. In 1935 she graduated from Dominion Business College as a secretary and worked for many years at Pioneer Grain. On July 19, 1941, Margaret and John married and after his Service in the Second World War they started their family. After her daughters were in school she went back to work, part-time as an Insurance Broker. She later worked full-time and retired at the age of 65 years. Throughout her life Margaret had many interests: golfing, bowling and was an avid fan of many sports, particularly the Blue Bombers. For many years she was a Brownie Leader and later became a Commissioner for Brownies and Girl Guides in Elmwood and East Kildonan. Margaret loved to travel and visited many places in Canada and the USA: Hawaii, Bermuda, Las Vegas, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. She always enjoyed her shopping trips to Grand Forks and Fargo with her daughters. In later years she became a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and made many friends and held many Chapter Executive Positions as well as doing a term as Winnipeg Sorority City Council President. When John was a Resident of Deer Lodge Centre, Margaret was President of the Deer Lodge Foundation from 1986-1987. Margaret's Family would like to thank all the Staff on Unit D1 at Middlechurch Home for their care and compassion over the past nine and one-half years. Thank you to the many others who were so good to Margaret and her Family and always made Margaret feel special. As per Mom's wishes, a "Celebration of Life" will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Henderson Hwy Legion Branch # 215, Canuck Hall, East St. Paul, 3600 De Vries Avenue (off Henderson Hwy. and the North Perimeter). In lieu of flowers, at Mom's request a donation can be made to Middlechurch Home's Recreation Department, 280 Balderstone Road, West St. Paul, Manitoba R4A 4A6, to be used for Resident activities. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Just looking through some history ancestry and came across my aunt. I have found memories as a little girl. Unfortunately, due to estrangement between my father, Margaret's brother we never were able to maintain future contact. I am very happy though to have found this obit and to read with interest. I am now 78. My cousin Barbara was only a week older than me. - Posted by: Laurine Joan (Fleing) Shone (Neice) on: Aug 06, 2024
