STAN LEIGHTON It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Stanley Alexander Leighton on January 11, 2017 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 86 years. He was predeceased by Virginia Friesen, his loving partner of many years. Left to cherish his memory are his sons Murray Leighton (Michelle) and David Leighton, his sisters Joan Biener and Doreen Bauer, his one and only grandchild Christopher as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Stan lived a long and satisfying life after retiring and spent many enjoyable times wintering in South Texas with Virginia. He was interested in genealogy and was active in researching his heritage resulting in his finding many of his kin in other parts of the world. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed almost any sport that appeared on the television. In his younger days he had been active in coaching minor league hockey at the local community club. At Stan's request cremation has taken place and no service will be held. His ashes will be interred at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. Stan was such a nice man. When Virginia was in the Misecordia, he came in to Tim Horton's every morning to order coffee from me for her and him to enjoy when he went to visit. There wasn't many mornings when he didn't come in and tell me of how she was doing. She must have been a wonderful woman to have a loving, caring man like Stan. Even after her passing, when he was at Safeway, he always came by to let me know how he was doing. I am going to miss those visits from Stan. But he is back with Virginia now, so he will once again take her into his arms and be with her forever. My deepest condolences to the family. You lost a wonderful man, but he will always be in your heart, as he is in mine. - Posted by: sandra spring (friend) on: Jan 21, 2017
