PHYLLIS GRACE KARSIN (nee ALGUIRE) Peacefully on January 19, 2017, at the age of 93 years, Phyllis passed away with her family at her side. Mom was born November 1, 1923 on the family farm near Ashville, MB, one of eight children to Charles and Ester Alguire. After school she moved to Brandon, MB to pursue a nursing career graduating with her RN Class of 1945 from Brandon General Hospital. She accepted a position at the opening of the Arborg Hospital where she would meet her future husband Joseph Karsin. They married October 7, 1950 spending 54 years together in Arborg until his passing in 2005. Mom continued her nursing career and together with Joe raised their two children Sheila and David. In 1970 she accepted the regional public health nurse position retiring in 1983. She was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Church, the Arborg Hospital Auxiliary and the Christian Women's Club. Nana, as the grandchildren affectionately termed her, loved family activities, which were an important part of her life. Spending time with the grandchildren sharing her love of the outdoors, gardening or attending their activities with them. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends floor curling and loved to visit daily over a cup of coffee. Mom is survived by her daughter Sheila (Rick) Johnston, grandchildren Shaina (Tristan), Tyler (Desiree), and Kirk (Charity), great-granddaughter Alaina, her son David (Pauline), grandson Jonathan, brother Ralph (Paz) Alguire, sister-in-law Elsie Alguire, numerous nieces and nephews. Following her request cremation has taken place with private family interment. A celebration of life being held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Arborg Christian Fellowship Church, Pastor Tom Gerbrandt officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at the Arborg and Seven Oaks Hospital for their excellent care. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Arborg Personal Care Home, Home Care and the Arborg Assisted Living for their kindness, dedication and loving care.
