THERESA ANNE HAMIN 1931 - 2017 With great sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother. Theresa Anne Hamin joined the heavenly angels on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the age of 86. "Terry" as she was known to many, just celebrated her birthday at home. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Laurie of 59 years in October 2015; her parents, Alexander (1968) and Josephine (1964) Yourchuk; brothers, Walter, Mike and Arnold and infant sister Olga. Terry will be lovingly remembered by children, Tracey (Randy), Kim, Ken (Tamara), Todd and her seven precious grandchildren, Lauren, Riley, Kendra, Keaton, Tanner, Mackenzie and Grace. She is also survived by her eldest and dear sister Nadia Hawes of Saskatoon. Auntie Terry will be deeply missed by nephews and nieces, Denise, Nancy, Harvey, Darlene, Terry, Bernadette, Greg and Brenda. Theresa was born in Wishart, Saskatchewan January 23, 1931. She graduated from the Nurses Training School at Selkirk Hospital for Mental Diseases in 1953. She married the love of her life, Laurie Hamin in 1956. The following year she took a break from her career to begin raising a family and moved from Selkirk to Winnipeg where her first daughter was born in 1958. Terry worked hard raising her four kids and was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments. She always enjoyed family gatherings over the holidays where she shared many laughs with us all. Her great smile, twinkle in her eyes, and her funny sayings will never be forgotten. Mom took great pride in her garden and truly enjoyed nurturing over her vegetables and flowers. This past summer people made it a point to walk by to admire the flowers outside her suite at Dakota House. She enjoyed curling in her early years and the sport interested her whole family. There was always a "Hamin presence" at the annual Pharmacy Bonspiel. Terry participated in the Bison Business Girls Curling Club at the Highlander for 15 years. She was active in the C.W.L. Mission Club of St. John Brebeuf and St. Ignatius Church. She also found time to join the Woman's Auxiliary of Pharmacists. Along with her husband Laurie, they owned and operated Falcon Lake Drugstore over the summers from 1958 to 1988. The long, hot days over the summer months ended with her preparing some fresh berries and cream for Dad and the kids. In 1979 Terry returned to Nursing at the Kiwanis Deaf Centre where she eventually retired. She really missed working there because she had met many friends. Terry will be affectionately remembered as a people person. She spoke to anyone, anywhere. She loved conversation with family, friends and strangers alike. She had a smile for all and loving hugs for those she knew. Mom cherished outings with the kids such as the zoo, picnics at the park and weekend drive-ins. Her genuine love of life was evident and her positive attitude was infectious. Mom always said "everything was going to be alright". She never wavered from her faith and her daily prayer brought her much comfort. She read the Bible cover to cover four times. Terry loved to shop and could spend hours browsing fresh markets and garden centers. Clothes were also a passion of hers. She always dressed very sharp, and there was no shortage of compliments regarding her fashionable attire over the years. Mom also loved to travel. Highlights included cruises and the family Disney vacation in 1974. Without doubt, her favourite destination was Hawaii where she visited four times and always said it was her "heaven on earth." Her most recent trip was last year on the Big Island where she even experienced a helicopter ride to view the active volcano. She will be forever in our hearts and is now guiding us from the heavens above. We celebrate the gift of our Mother and Baba who has now returned to God. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 255 Stafford Street on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Joe Newman officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue following the reception. "After my death, I will let fall a shower of roses. I will spend my heaven doing good upon earth" - St. Thérèse In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Theresa's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • My deepest sympathies to Ken, Todd, and your families. I knew Ken's Mom due to my relationship with Ken. I remember her offering Ken and I many suppers prior to heading out on a weekend evening. She was very kind and generous, and had a large heart. I know she will be missed, and her spirit will support and comfort the family through this difficult time. My condolences to the entire Hamin families, and my apologies I was not able to fly to Winnipeg to attend the funeral. Kind regards, Bruce McTavish (& Stella - daughter) - Posted by: Bruce McTavish (Friend) on: Feb 21, 2017

  • Terry treated me as if I was one of her family. She always had a nice compliment for anyone - whether it was on your clothes or hair. She had a lot of spunk and wasn't afraid to show it - even driving to the store without a drivers license. I knew she had a lot of medical problems but she never complained. I will miss our late evening chats in the laundry room about books, cooking and baking or our favourite subject - jewellery . RIP Terry - Heaven now has a very sparkly angel. My deepest condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Sheila Selluski (Front Desk at Dakota House) on: Feb 06, 2017

  • Terri was such an inspiration to me!! I will miss her more than words can say! I always called her the 'Angel nurse' at the Deaf Centre where we worked together because that was what she was to the residents and staff alike. She sat on the edge of a bed to give exactly what was generally all that was needed...'Time and Attention' which tended to be difficult at times. Terri made everyone feel special and important and the only person in the room. My condolences go out to her amazing children and beautiful grandchildren! Terri will be so very missed! - Posted by: Gina Maureen Bye (Friend) on: Feb 04, 2017

  • My sincere condolences to Auntie Terry's family on her passing. Auntie Terry was my favorite Aunt and became like a 2nd mother to me after the passing of my Mother, Annette Homenick. I always thought she was a classy lady, dressed to the nine and I cherished the clothes she gave to me when they did not fit her anymore. She definitely didn't buy her clothes at Walmart but more like Renfrew. I enjoyed a few of my teenage years spending it at Falcon Lake babysitting Tracey, Kim, Ken and Todd while Auntie Terry and Uncle Laurie ran the drugstore there. I remember one year I found a bikini in the drugstore and as a surprise Auntie Terry bought it for me as a little something extra for taking care of my little cousins. I will definitely miss her as she is the last of all my aunts and uncles to pass away. I would like to share a quote with her family now and hope it will help them in their grieving time. "Auntie Terry has not died, but merely gone away, to a better place, free of pain and suffering. We will see her again someday." You are now with Uncle Laurie and my parents, Harry and Annette Homenick. Rest In Peace Auntie Terry you are loved and will be missed. - Posted by: Patricia Homenick (Niece) on: Feb 03, 2017

  • My sincere condolences to you Tracey, Randy and to your children as well as to your extended family. - Posted by: Anna Gousseau (Co-worker) on: Feb 01, 2017
