HENRY (HARRY) TREVOR EDWARDS August 15, 1921 - January 29, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Edwards, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Dad is joining the love of his life, our mother Evelyn, who passed away October, 2015. Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Rebecca, and his brother Frank. He is survived by his children: Terry (Mike), Reid and Grant (Asha), grandchildren, Sabrina (Rick), Cory, Logan, Ally, Marlo, Veronica and Sydney, and great-granddaughter Kyah. Dad enlisted in the military in 1942 where he served in the artillery division, transferring to the 25th Field Regiment with the rank of Major, and ending his military career in the Supplementary Reserve. He obtained his B.A. from the University of Manitoba, and also earned a Diploma in Education setting his path for his future career. Dad taught at various schools in Winnipeg School Division 1: King Edward School, Daniel Mac (his alma mater, where he also coached the football team), Sargent Park (Vice Principal), Queenston (Principal), R.B. Russell (Vice Principal) and Andrew Mynarski (Principal) before finally retiring as Vice Principal at Grant Park in 1978. Dad loved to read anything, and everything, enjoyed music and watching sports. He was always the athlete, a runner, and walker in his later years, as he believed in always remaining active. An avid golfer, he held membership No. 1 at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club until he was the last remaining member of his foursome! He and Mom were antique collectors, researching antiquities and visiting different shows across North America. Always a teacher, Dad instilled in us his passion for travel and exploration by taking us across Canada, from coast to coast, as well as throughout the U.S.A., including Alaska. He and Mom also spent some time in the British Isles exploring his roots. The Knox United Church community held a special place in his heart and the friends made there were for life. As one who believed strongly in the Golden Rule, Dad gave of his time, money and leadership within the church community, and throughout various organizations and charities within Manitoba. Dad had a wonderful sense of humour, and was a kind, compassionate and caring person who always saw the good in situations and in people. He and Mom shared a special and loving relationship, which is a model for all who knew them. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverwood Square, and the Winnipeg Paramedic Service, nurses and physicians in ED and 5E at St. Boniface Hospital for their exceptional care of Dad and our family. A private family memorial service has taken place. God rest your soul Dad NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Have many fond memories of times spent with your parents at many Comack gatherings. My Dad, John and Mom, Lorraine treasured their long friendship. My husband and I met them at many an antique show or garage sale. As an Educator, myself, I had some interesting conversations with your Dad. He will be at peace now and with your Mom and all their buddies in heaven. Just imagine the conversations. Please accept our condolences. • What I remember about Uncle Harry is his sense of humor, zest for life, and love for his family. He was a great man and touched everyone he met with his kind words. He will be missed by all who knew him. I'll never forget Christmas Eve at Grandmother's house cabbage rolls were on the table he jokingly called them "hoplickers" and Grandmother said "oh Harry that's holuptzi". Rest in peace uncle. - Posted by: Cindy Dykun (Niece ) on: Feb 04, 2017
