BODIL MARY SWAIN (nee NIELSEN) On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, Mom peacefully passed away at the age of 88 years in Carman. Mom was born in Carman July 28, 1928 to Magne and Mogens Nielsen, who both immigrated to Canada from Denmark. Her brother William was born August 24, 1930. Their home was a place for Danish folks to reminisce and enjoy many traditional meals. Mom received her education in Sperling and at Rupertsland in Winnipeg. Mom and Dad were married in 1949 and farmed in the Brigdenley area, west and south of Sperling. In the early days their farmyard was a barren landscape. Together, they transformed the yard into a prairie woodland. Mom and Dad retired to Sperling. Dad passed away in 2002 and mom moved to Carman in 2005. A special relationship began with Blake Whittleton, an antique car enthusiast and MCAAC member. Mom and Blake traveled with the car club and she met many wonderful people. A special thank you to Al Holmberg and Brian Burrows for producing a video in remembrance of Blake who passed away in 2016, shortly before his farm's 100th celebration. Mom was a good neighbour, a good friend and a great mother, what more could anyone ask for. Life long friendships with Ruth, Dorothy, Audrey and Fran were her treasures along with her family. Many thanks to Margaret and Nancy for being most kind and caring neighbours. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Jack and her brother William "Bill" Nielsen. Forever remembered by her son Gordon (Darlene) and family, Harley (Brandi) and Andi; daughter Dianne (Brian Burrows) and family Matthew Chatwin (Kristin) and Meghan (Vassan), and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Fran Nielsen. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, #1 452 Dovercourt Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or to the Carman Area Foundation - Sperling Fund, Box 160, Carman, MB R0G 0J0.
