ELENA C. CABRAL It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our aunt, Elena C. Cabral after a long illness at Health Sciences Centre. Born in 1943, our aunt Elena was one of the first waves of Filipino workers who immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. Her first job was as a sewing machine operator at Silpit Industries where she met friends whom she rented a house with for several years until each one of them was able to bring her respective family over from the Philippines. She became a member of the Church of Christ in 1977 and was an active choir member until she became too ill to perform her duties. She was a true friend, a loving daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt who dedicated her whole life in helping her family. She's the type of person who will fight tooth and nail for the people she cared about. Our aunt was predeceased by her parents, Diego and Leonora Cabral; her siblings, Kaka Cabral, Avelino Cabral, Natividad Paguia, Rodolfo Cabral, Rogelio Cabral, Lydia Baysa, and Reynaldo Cabral as well as her nephew Rogel Paguia. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Perlita/Peter Gaza, Arnel/Gemma Paguia, Wawel/Liway Paguia, Aura/Ferdie Yumul, Ronald Paguia as well as others in the Philippines and other parts of the world. She will also be terribly missed by her grandnieces and nephews who brought great joy to her later years, Gabriel, JD, Nicky, Jhay-Ar, Daisy, Pam, Dominick, Francis, JP, Bilog, Kevin and Nico as well as by all the people who were lucky enough to get to know her. A Lamay service will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery. Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all the staff at the HSC emergency ward, GH7 and GD5 for taking very good care of our aunt and for making her last days as comfortable as possible. We also want to thank our friends and brethren from our church who took the time to visit her while she was in the hospital. We really appreciate everything you've done. Arrangements has been entrusted to Thomson "In the Park" and we would like to extend an invitation to everyone who knew her to join us in paying our last respects.
