JUNE MALABAR 1923 - 1917 On February 3, 2017, at the Lions Personal Care Centre, June Malabar passed away at the age of 93 years. Our mother was born May 23, 1923 in Regina, SK. As an only child she had a happy childhood, active in sports and excellent in school. She was popular and loved life. Following the Second World War she was transferred to Montreal with The Dominion Life Assurance Company where she met Ross Malabar and they were married in 1947. For June, family and friends were the most important aspects of her life. A loving mother always there for her children and later for her grandchildren. June's summers were spent at the lake - first Beaconia and then Clytie Bay, with her children, family and many great friends. Gardening, fishing and golf were among her favourite outdoor activities. Active throughout her life June dedicated much time to the Lionelles club of Winnipeg where she made many close friends. For over 50 years June was involved in many fundraising and social activities to help the Lions Club with their various projects. One of her dearest projects was the building of Lions Manor at Portage and Sherbrook and her involvement with volunteering there from the 1960s through the 1980s. June lived at 64 Nassau where she was active in social events and planning entertainment for the block. She made many good friends there, where most afternoons were spent going for coffee out the back door to the River and Osborne Safeway. The last three years had been difficult for June as her health declined but she was happy when she was admitted to Lions Manor Personal Care Centre for her final year as she had wanted to be there. June is survived by sons Scott (Jan), and Keith (Debbie), daughters Margo and Wendy (Monty), and by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held for June at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, at a later date. We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to the staff of Lions Personal Care Centre for their wonderful care and compassion for our mother.
