JOYCE BORGER March 31, 1933 - February 11, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Joyce Borger passed peacefully on February 11, 2017 at the River Park Gardens Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Joyce is survived by her children Ralph, John and Grant (Sharon), grandchildren Michael (Kate), Steven, Timothy and Hunter, great-grandchildren Liam, Rose and Harley, sisters Margaret Miller and Norma Reeves, sisters-in-law Helen Borger, Barbara Graham, Jill Borger, Lois Borger and brother-in-law Gerald Borger also many nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Wasylyk, partner Gerry Foster, brother Milford, sisters Marion Huggins, Olga Harrison and Elva Barkwell, son-in-law Derek Mitchell, sisters-in-law Jessica Borger and Elsie Wasylyk, brothers-in-law Alan Borger, Andy Huggins, Andy Miller, Bob Graham, Donald Borger, Harry Reeves, Henry Borger and Nick Harrison, nieces Nancy Borger and Cindy Barkwell and nephew Tim Borger. Joyce was born in Winnipeg growing up in the north end were she attended Aberdeen School for grades one to nine and then St. John's High School. She excelled in academics and all sports and athletics even basketball despite her diminutive physical stature. Joyce lived most of her life in Winnipeg but for eight years in Alberta. As Joyce's journey proceeded, changes occurred and she found herself introduced to the Lake of the Woods and Hay Island where she enjoyed spending the summers with her partner Jerry Foster. Soon after, grandchildren began arriving and they gave her the greatest joy. Many a Saturday morning I can recall a phone call going out to her from one of her grandchildren "gramma can you take us to Chuck E. Cheese" and shortly gramma would arrive and off to Chuck E. Cheese they went. As time moved along Joyce and Gerry began enjoying the Dominican in the winter and had many wonderful adventures there but they abandoned that tiny island for a much larger one, Australia, and began spending time there in the winters which they enjoyed immensely. Joyce's love was her family and she was most happy when with them and she loved being baba. She did however have a passion for song and she possessed a truly magnificent voice, always breaking into song as she did her housework and at many family gatherings. This continued even into her later years, with failing body and mind she still had all the words and melody and entertained the home with her beautiful voice on every occasion possible. We have many years of wonderful memories, great joy, cherished happy times and moments of sorrow and as we look back we see a full life well lived. The family thanks the staff at River Park Gardens for the sincere kindness, caring and compassion you gave our mother. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, 1:30 p.m., at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We are so very sorry to hear of the passing of Joyce. Our family spent many wonderful years with her in Winnipeg and when we kept moving over the years, Joyce and Gerry would visit us in Toronto, ON, Rochester, NY, Tampa, FL, Aurora, IL and at our cabin in Wisconsin. She loved to talk about her children and grand-children who held a very special place in her heart. Her smile and giggles are still a strong memory. She will be missed by all, but the many memories you have will heal the grieving. In sympathy, our thoughts are with you... • Sending my deepest condolences to you Grant, Sharon, Hunter, Ralph and John. Joyce was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known. She was always smiling and I loved to hear her sing. May the love you all shared with her live on in your hearts forever. Sending love and hugs to all of you Aunty Thora xoxoxo - Posted by: Thora Meade (Family friend) on: Feb 18, 2017

  • We have a lot great memories of your Mom from family dinners, to fun times at the lake and 'interesting' experiences in the DR. We will especially remember her singing. Unfortunately, we are away and will not be able to attend the service, but our thoughts will be with you. Our sincerest condolences.
