LOUISE PEDERSEN BOIVIN It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, godmother and friend, Louise Pedersen Boivin, on February 15, 2017, at the age of 88 years. She leaves to mourn her children, Pat and Paul Vandal, Mae and Morrie Snider, Neil and Carmel Legal; her grandchildren, Carole Bonin, Nicole Vandal Morlock, Yves Vandal, Michael Legal (Becky), Matthew Legal (Heather), Meagan Maksuta (Jason), Trent Snider (Dani), Jason Snider (Kelly), Krista Snider; her great-grandchildren, Nicolas Bonin, Channelle Vandal, Emily and Sarah Vandal Morlock, Abigail Maksuta, Taylor Labelle and Kayla Burbine. Also, Mom leaves to mourn her many friends including Doris Gauthier with whom she was friends for 85 years. Mom was predeceased by her husband Alcide Boivin, her parents Niels and Jensine Pedersen, her sister Ellen Davidson, her lifelong friend Holger Petersen and her son Allan Legal. Mom was born and raised in Ross, Manitoba. At thirteen, she left home to work in Anola where she was the caregiver for two little boys. She then went on to live in Winnipeg where she did housekeeping by the day and later was the elevator operator at the Misericordia Hospital. When she married and returned to Ross, she was co-owner of the local grocery store and later owned and operated a dairy farm. Mom was a strong, fiercely independent and hard working woman. She grew a large garden, canned vegetables, tended to the cattle, made hay, and kept house. In later years, when we moved to Winnipeg she worked at the Norwood Hotel, the St. Regis Hotel and Chicken Chef. She was loved by her employers, her coworkers and patrons. Mom and her daughter Mae owned and operated a Daycare before she retired. Upon retirement, Mom returned to school, having left it around 50 years earlier, and completed her GED. Mom was fluent in three languages: English, Danish and French and recently recited the Lord's Prayer in all three languages. Mom was a woman proud of her Danish heritage, who cooked traditional food and fostered the Danish culture in our home. She could decorate, knit, crochet and sew but best of all she could grow tomatoes and flowers! Her patio was a bevy of pink and white petunias and luscious red tomatoes.the envy of many residents. The family would like to thank Doctor Badesha, the Palliative Team and the staff at the Victoria Hospital for our mother's care during the final eleven days of her life. We also thank the caring staff members of Golden Links Lodge. A special recognition is extended to Girlie Dela Cruz who became Mom's special caregiver and friend. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. For those who wish, donations may be made in Mom's name to a charity of your choice. "Mothers hold their child's hands for a moment and their heart for a lifetime." We will miss you Mom.
