BRENDA LEA WEBBER (nee HILL) It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Webber. With her family at her side, Brenda succumbed to a valiant battle with cancer on February 14, 2017 at Health Sciences Centre. She is survived by her husband Bruce, sons Justin (Lisa) and Travis (Vanessa), mother Gladys Hill, sisters Pat Melnyk (Bob), Laurie Hill, and brothers John Hill (Diane) and James Hill. Also left behind are many nieces, nephews, and most specially her granddaughter Emily. Brenda was predeceased by her father John (Jack) Hill. Brenda was born in Calgary, Alberta May 10, 1953. Not too long after, the family settled in Winnipeg. As the active person she was, Brenda became involved as a young girl in Brownies and Guides and eventually became a Brownie leader for many years. Throughout her years at Bannatyne School and Silver Heights Collegiate Brenda was involved in many activities from curling to cheerleading. Swimming was an important activity at the Hill household and Brenda achieved her Bronze Medallion level which led to one of her early summer jobs as a lifeguard at an apartment block pool. Brenda, Bruce and the boys enjoyed skiing together and had many trips to the mountains for family ski vacations. As a group they were also lucky enough to be able to enjoy several summer camping trips and most importantly they will cherish all the good times spent together at the family cottage at Rush Bay on Lake of the Woods. Staying busy was a trait that carried on into Brenda's working years, as she regularly volunteered to canvas for community organizations including Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, United Way and others. This is something Brenda carried until late in her life. She was also very involved with her boys' school activities which included organizing programs such as Club Read and spending countless hours sewing costumes for school plays that were used for many years after her children had moved on. Brenda also regularly volunteered to help out with community club affairs and even organized and led an aerobics class at Deer Lodge Community Club. Brenda and Bruce were able to travel during their working careers and into retirement, including throughout Canada and the United States, as well as Mexico, Hawaii, Caribbean, Brazil, South Africa and most recently a trip to Norway. Throughout their travels Brenda collected miniature boxes and thimbles and loved to show off her treasures to anyone interested. Along with being an avid reader, Brenda was an amazing baker which was surely passed down to her from her mother, Gladys. The family would like to acknowledge the unbelievable kindness and support Brenda received from the staffs at CancerCare Manitoba and Health Sciences Centre. They are truly remarkable people. A celebration of Brenda's life will take place at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery), on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we would be pleased if donations were made to Brenda's chosen charities - CancerCare Manitoba, Siloam Mission or Salvation Army.
