CAPTAIN J. D. CLIFFORD STEVENS Captain J. D. Clifford Stevens passed away peacefully at the age of 80 with his family by his side, on February 20, 2017. Cancer has taken another undeserving and innocent life. Clifford will be remembered by his wife Beverley; sons, Thor (Linda), Stefan (Donna), daughters Sylvia and Susan (Terry); grandchildren, Daniel, Trevor, Mitchell (Allison), Warren, Eric, Jordan, Leah, Stefan, Darren and Justin; brothers-in-law, Don Smith, Don Withers (Marina); predeceased by parents, Captain Clifford Sr. and Snjolaug; sister JoAnne Smith; nephew Jon; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Captain Clifford Stevens was a third generation Captain on Lake Winnipeg. He served on such boats as the Goldfield, J.R. Spears, Bradbury, Kenora and on the Paddlewheel Queen. He took great pride in sharing his countless stories of the freighting and passenger sailing days on Lake Winnipeg. Influenced by the desire to have more time with his young family; he left the lake and gained employment at Seagram's Distillery until his retirement. Clifford's community involvement was wide and diverse. Over the years he enjoyed many affiliations; he was an active member of the Gimli Lutheran Church, served as Lieutenant Governor's Aide, member of the Masonic Lodge, served on the Gimli Fire Department as well as on the board of directors at the Marine Museum of Selkirk, to name a few. Being proud of his Icelandic heritage, Cliff and Bev made two trips to Iceland to visit family and friends and would always welcome Icelandic visitors to their home for stories and fellowship. Afi will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors; camping, fishing and gardening. These were some of the passions he shared with his family and friends. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Jon Saper, the Gimli Home Care staff and the Gimli Community Health Centre for their outstanding care during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clifford's memory to the Gimli Lutheran Church. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Gimli Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. Goda nott elskan min. Til ad maeta aftur.
