Along with raising a young family he hauled topsoil and farmed into his 80s. Dad was an active member with the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed meeting and making friends at the local coffee shops and casinos. Daddy, it's been 2 months since you left us... I miss you so very much.... I'm sorry I wasn't a better Daughter to you.... I still cry everyday when I think of you.... Thank you for being an exemplary gentleman, and a great Father. When Mom died when I was about 16, I had two younger brothers, and two younger sisters.... our lives were in chaos for a while, but you pulled us together as a family and we 'carried on'. You ran our family farm, and worked full time at a steel foundry in Selkirk, and hauled topsoil, just to support us. You ensured each of us thrived. Unfortunately, we lost 'baby' Kevin at a young age.... I think this devastated us all, but was especially hard on you. A child should never die before a Parent... Thank you for raising us well; all by yourself. I know you were well loved, and you have touched so many hearts in this world. You were kind to your lady friend of many years, Verna. You both lit up the dance floor when you went out together. I know you are in Heaven; with Kevin, Mom, my friend Virginia.... and with your group of many friends that predeceased you.... Your sense of humour was infectious, you loved joking around..... I love and miss you, Daddy; Forever and always, Your eldest daughter, Charlene - Posted by: Charlene Katazinski (Daughter) on: Apr 30, 2017

I grew up just a mile south of Alex’s Mom and Dad’s homestead. I went to Greenwich School with Alex’s brothers Roy and William and sister Ida. I was the youngest and remember always walking behind the older children in order to break the cold wind in the winter time. Along with the Wilkes, Schreyer’s and Katazinksi’s we would make the trek to Greenwich School which was a mile and a half from our place which was on the Selkirk Line. I will be forever grateful to Alex as he was a comfort to my Mom when she was home alone when my Dad was away working for Manitoba Power Commission (Manitoba Hydro). Mom would mention how grateful she was because she knew that Alex would always be there if she needed help. She looked forward to the visits from Alex’s young children. I will always remember Alex as a true gentleman, with a smile on his face and words of cheer and encouragement during conversations with him. You will truly be missed Alex. May God’s Grace and Peace be always with you in Heaven and your family here on Earth! - Posted by: Andrew and Maryanne Dolenuk (Former Neighbors) on: Mar 04, 2017

I am so sorry to hear of Alex's passing. He was such a kindhearted man! While I haven't had the opportunity to see much of him the past few years, I have many memories of him whenever our families got together for birthdays and other events! He will be missed-my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. - Posted by: Jennifer van de walle () on: Mar 03, 2017
