ALFIO CERASANI February 10, 1929 to February 28, 2017 Surrounded by his family, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of a husband, father and Nonno, after a brief illness, at the Victoria General Hospital. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Maria; his children Vincenza (Bruce) and Carlo (Marlene); cherished grandchildren Nigel, Sergio (Jasmine), Francesca, Larissa and Carter; sister-in-law Italia, and brother-in-law Vincenzo (Valentina). Alfio was born in San Benedetto Dei Marsi, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy to Guido Cerasani and Assunta Ramunno. Engaged prior to immigrating to Canada in March 1951, married by proxy in February 1952, Maria joined Alfio in Winnipeg in March 1954. Alfio worked many jobs before finding his calling with CNR/VIA Rail where he retired in 1990 after 37 years. Alfio helped many with home renovations over the years. His true passion however was gardening, taking pride in his grapes and prized tomato plants which he started from seed and shared with many. His family and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was an inspiration to us all, always having a story to tell. He enjoyed socializing and recently discovered Facebook where he had hundreds of friends. The family thanks the Victoria General Hospital ICU team for their unwavering care and compassion during Alfio's final weeks. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue. Condolences offered at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano officiating. It is the season of Lent so flowers are graciously declined. Riposo in pace...keep smiling!
