LORRAINE MARGARET ROSSELL (nee MCCOMBE) 1929 - 2017 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lorraine Margaret Rossell (nee McCombe) announces her passing on March 1, 2017, at age 87. She was a loving, selfless, and wise mother to Jean, Scott (Holly), and Bruce. She was known as "Grandma Lorraine" to Caelum, Graham, and Rebecca. Lorraine celebrated their achievements in life. She and Caelum had a special bond and were true friends. Lorraine was born in 1929 in Winnipeg, and was a sister to six siblings; of which Jim is the only one left to mourn her. She is also predeceased by Stanley Rossell. She lived in Winnipeg all her life. Lorraine was part of a tight-knit group of adoring friends, many whom she had known since childhood. Lorraine was a woman ahead of her time, starting in the business office of Eaton's and then moving quickly through the ranks at Imperial Oil. She was a devoted mother but after her children were grown, she opened The Green Scene, and independent gift and plant store on Lilac Street. Her love of good design and even better taste pioneered the retail gift market in Winnipeg and she had loyal, devoted customers. Both of her sons inherited her love of art, design, and above all insistence on elegant surroundings. Her children meant the world to Lorraine and she tirelessly volunteered for and donated to numerous special needs programs. Her great taste extended to her wardrobe and she was always a sharp dresser. Lorraine loved to travel, play golf, and curling; as well as keep up with the local theatre and the arts. She kept her fierce intelligence until the very end and loved to spar about current events. She was an avid reader and could be depended on to have the latest titles on her bookshelf as well as a number of classics. In recent years, her health kept her from enjoying her life to the fullest but she never lost her sense of humour. The family wishes to thank Dr. Badesha and her Victoria Hospital nurse Linda for the comfort, care, and compassion they showed Lorraine in the end. Memorial service will be held for close friends and family at 166 Lyndale Drive on March 12, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Prairie Places, 220 - 500 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I sorry to have learned about Lorraine’s death so late, and sorry to have missed her memorial service. Decades ago, we worked closely together on advancing opportunities for Manitobans with intellectual disabilities to participate more fully in their communities, life choices, and the workforce. She was a gem. - Posted by: Rob McInnes (Friend) on: Jun 12, 2025

  • Hello Scott, Bruce & Jean, Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. They say time heals all wounds. Jean & I enjoyed visiting your mother at the Green Scene and of course hearing the stories of the McCombs when they lived on Strathcona and Riverview. We are presently out of the country and cannot make the Memorial Service so we are expressing our condolenses in this way. Take care, Garth & Jean. - Posted by: Garth & Jean McCOMBE (Nephew) on: Mar 11, 2017
