PAULINE PETO We are deeply saddened by the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Pauline Patricia Peto (Martin), on February 24, 2017 just short of her 99th birthday. Pauline was predeceased by her dear husband Leonard Donnelly Peto and is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Leona (Murray Brown), and Joan (Fraser Linklater); and her cherished grandchildren, Chris Brown (Christine Linscer), Heather Brown (Jason Hood), Shannon Linklater (Jamie Moses) and Kevin Linklater and her great-grandchildren, Casey Brown, Jehden Hood, and Malika Moses. Daughter of Francis (Frank) Martin and Clara Belle Powley, Pauline was born on March 13, 1918 in Winnipeg and grew up with her older siblings Clarice and Lawrence. After high school Pauline graduated from the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Home Economics in 1939 and Faculty of Education in 1940. Upon graduation she taught sewing in British Columbia and then Winnipeg. In 1947 she married Leonard, the love of her life and together they raised their two girls, overcoming the challenges they faced when Leonard took sick with polio shortly after Joan was born in 1953. Pauline's life was shaped by her strength of character, her enduring Christian faith and her unwavering love of family. She was a long-time member of St. Aidan's Anglican Church and active in the Women's Auxiliary and the Dorcas Group for many years. She had a strong faith in Christ and valued the church's spiritual support throughout her life. The University Women's Club also played a very important part in Pauline's life. She was a long-time member and very much enjoyed her association with the club. Mom had an intense love for her city, Winnipeg, and valued the many friendships she made over the years. She was most appreciative of the excellent service provided by the staff of The Waverley and was especially grateful for the kind and thoughtful care provided by the Home Care workers. Pauline's funeral will be held at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, 274 Campbell Street on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the springtime at Elmwood Cemetery, Winnipeg. Memorial donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre or a charity of your choice. Neil Bardal Funeral Centre 204-949-2200

  • I'm very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I have very fond memories of her from St. Aidan's and from the days long ago in Winnipeg. She was such a delightful person, always so interested in everyone and everything. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Sue Masterman (congegant) on: Mar 16, 2017

  • Dear Leona & Joan - I last saw your mom in November 2016 when my choir sang at The Waverley. I recognized her right away by her smile. She spoke proudly of all her family, & we reminisced about the days when she & my mother were friends at St Aidan's. She asked after all my siblings, remembering them by name. I was amazed that her memory was so good! My thoughts are with you at this sad time. May your fond memories hold Pauline always in your hearts. - Posted by: Barb Masterman (daugher of an old friend) on: Mar 10, 2017
