ANDRAS (ANDY) SZUCS 1944 - 2017 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of my friend, husband and father of our children. After a three-year battle with cancer and continuing dementia, Andy passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, at the age of 72 years. Andy's life will be remembered and missed by his wife, Joan, and his children Sandor Szucs, Cheryl Carveth (Ryan) and Cynthia Davis (Michael). He will also be missed by his brothers, Alex Szucs from Arizona and Bert Szucs from Alberta. His numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren will always remember the fun times they had with their Uncle Andy and Grandpa Szucs. He was predeceased by his parents, Sandor and Jolan Szucs, and his brother Laszlo Szucs. On April 8, 1944, Andy was born in Nyirmada, Hungary. In 1956, he came to Canada with his parents and brother Bert. They re-started their lives in Winnipeg. Andy worked at various jobs in Winnipeg and in his early 20s, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces which he served for 30 years, from 1966 to 1996. During his military career, Andy was stationed in Gimli, MB, Ottawa, ON and Summerside, P.E.I. After he retired from the military in Winnipeg, he joined the Corp of Commissionaires. He remained with the Corp for 17 years. After retirement, he enjoyed his home in Winnipeg and his campsite in Gimli, MB. Andy loved travelling and exploring new places. He was also an avid reader, along with a television and movie enthusiast. Andy participated in bowling tournaments and acquired numerous trophies. He had a love of good music, art and literature of all sorts. A private family Funeral Service will be held. Many thanks to the W.R.H.A. Palliative Care teams and the Riverview Health Centre for doing everything possible to help Andy during his difficult times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to a Dementia Organization of your choice.
