ARLA STEEVES After a long and happy life, Arla Lillian Steeves (nee Church) died peacefully at home, in her sleep, on February 28, 2017. Born April 8, 1936, Arla was predeceased by her partner Mel McFarlane (1989), her parents Alf (1978) and Lillian (1984) Church, her son Glenn Allen Steeves (1967), her ex-husband Glenn Ivan Steeves (1980), and many other relatives and friends she will be thrilled to be reunited with. Arla will be missed by her brother Alf (Louise) Church, cousins Verna, and David..., children Grant (Susan) Steeves, Glenda Whiteman, and Miles (Allison) Steeves, grandchildren Allen, Raine and Bobbie Whiteman, Kaitlyn and Matthew Steeves, great-grandchildren Aidan, Kaiya, Declan, Dilyn, Rowan, Peyton, Lyric and Sophya, and nieces and nephews all over Canada and beyond. As well, Arla will be loved and remembered by many who knew her through her employment in school divisions (formerly known as) Midland, Mystery Lake, Pine Creek, and River East, and through her post-retirement work for Ludwick's Catering and Cropo Funeral Chapel. Throughout her life, Arla enjoyed various different pursuits: she liked to golf and curl, she enjoyed going to the cabin, she loved to watch hockey, and she certainly liked to give advice (said Brian.) In recent years, her greatest enjoyment has been spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their activities. A service to celebrate Arla's life will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. (Please be fragrance-free.) For those who wish to be here with us, but are unable to travel to Winnipeg, the service will be webcast at www.nbardal.mb.ca and please contact the family if you would like to join us via Skype during the reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation will be gratefully accepted. A special thank you is due to the Winnipeg Police Service for their exceptional compassion. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I was so saddened to hear of Arla's passing. Arla and I worked together both in the River East School Division and at Ludwick Catering. We always had great conversations; (often heated!) discussions; and lots of laughs. She was one spunky lady! My sincere condolences to the family for your loss. - Posted by: Mary Lynne Montgomery Fischer (Friend/Co-worker) on: Mar 06, 2017
