ARTHUR FORSYTH It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Arthur Forsyth on March 5, 2017, peacefully with his family by his side, at Lakeshore General Hospital, Ashern, MB. He was 91 years of age. Arthur was born on October 28, 1925 in Eriksdale, MB to Annie and John Forsyth, the fifth of six children. He attended school in Eriksdale and completed Grade Nine. During the Second World War Art enlisted in the R.C.A.F. - he had two brothers overseas and was eager to join the fight so enlisted underage. Shortly before he was scheduled to deploy, the war ended. In 1948, Art married the love of his life, Gladys Longmuir. They settled in Eriksdale where together they raised four children. They owned and operated Eriksdale Transfer for many years. At the age of 45, Art suffered a debilitating stroke after which he retired from working life. Art was an avid reader. He always had a dish of peppermints by his chair. He called them his "smokes" after he gave up the real thing and everyone was offered one. He loved visits with his siblings and friends, large family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Gladys enjoyed many vacations with friends and spent many nice winters at their place in Yuma, AZ. In later years, Art loved to go for a drive and tell stories about his life as a truck driver and memories of places and people along the roads he knew so well. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children: Doug Forsyth, Shelley (Lyle) Sigfusson, Pat (Ken) Robinson, and son-in-law Lorne Boss; his sister Nan Elfenson; sisters-in-law Iris Forsyth and Kay Forsyth; his grandchildren: Nicole (Randy) Dreger, Derek Boss, Marnie (Richard) Engelberg, Michelle Forsyth, Cindy (Dennis) Cruise, Doug (Erika) Forsyth, Alicia (James) Ballantyne, Haley (Ben) Price, Kelsey Sigfusson, Brett Stefanyshyn and Carissa Stefanyshyn; and 16 great-grandchildren, along with numerous other relatives and friends. Art was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Gladys; daughter Lynn Boss; parents John and Annie Forsyth; brothers John and Jim; sisters Emma Mills and Margaret Whitney, and many good friends. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre with Shirley Russell officiating. A luncheon to follow in the hall upstairs. Interment will take place at a later date. Special thanks to the staff at the Eriksdale Personal Care Home where Art lived for the past 11 years and where he received exceptional care. He considered many there to be "family". Thanks also to Dr. Kashur and staff at Lakeshore General Hospital where he and his family received much kindness and caring at the end of his life. ARTHUR FORSYTH Peacefully, with his family at his side, Arthur Forsyth aged 91 years of Eriksdale, MB passed away at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre with Shirley Russell officiating. Interment will be held in the Eriksdale Municipal Cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the hall upstairs. Longer obituary to follow.
