SADIE EMMA HILLYARD (nee LIDSTONE) May 27, 1928 - March 3, 2017 After a short illness Sadie Emma Hillyard (nee Lidstone) passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital with her family beside her on March 3, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband Varrick Hillyard; her father Archibald Lidstone; mother Elizabeth Lidstone and brother Roy Lidstone. She leaves to mourn her daughter Sharon Swanlund; son Colin Hillyard (Suzanne); grandsons, Kent Swanlund (Chantelle Cheema) and Mark Swanlund (Francine Billings) and sister Vera Norman as well as many other family and friends. Sadie was born in Laurenceton, NL and remained on the island until 1959 when Varrick rejoined the army and the family moved to Edmonton, AB. An overseas posting in 1967 moved the family to Germany for five years, where she enjoyed many great family vacations. A move back to Canada in 1971 landed her in Winnipeg and a chance to settle down. Always someone who enjoyed work, she started at Athletes Wear a short time later and remained there until retiring at 65. She stayed in touch with the many friends she made while there and loved their get togethers. In retirement she continued to travel extensively with family and friends, a favorite trip being her 80th birthday family Caribbean cruise. The family would like to thank the members of the Winnipeg Police Service and the Emergency Medical Services for their compassion and professionalism. We would also like to thank the exceptional staff at the Grace Hospital for their compassionate care of our mother. A private family internment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7 For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Sincere condolences. I have many fond memories of Sadie and the years we worked at Athlete's Wear. Sadie was a beautiful lady with a great sense of humor. - Posted by: Mary Gray () on: Mar 15, 2017

  • Dear Sharon, Colin and your families, Your Mom was blessed with a long life. Working with your Mom at Athletes Wear brought many happy memories. She was always co-operative, hard work ethics and detailed. She gave 110%. She loved life and made the most of the moment with her humor. We reconnected in the fall through the lunch get together with Helen, Bill, Elaine, Iris and brain freeze of who else. (smile). I was so glad to see her again. Please accept our condolences on behalf of the 3rd floor Athletes Wear staff. Have been in touch with Yvonne, Maureen, Sudesh and Melba. May God's peace comfort you through this time. Hope to see you all sometime that you are all grown up now. (smile) - Posted by: Edith (McCarver) Smith (Co-worker & friend) on: Mar 13, 2017

  • Sharon and Colin and families. My heart is broken knowing Sadie is gone. Sorry it had been so long since I last got to visit with her. I loved getting home to Winnipeg and going to spend some time with her, catching up on the family. I always felt welcomed and it was like time had not passed. Enjoyed laughing with her and having our Pina Coladas in the can! My heart is heavy knowing I won't be able to see her again. She was a sweetheart, and I am so blessed to have known her all these years. My love to everybody. Lynne - Posted by: Lynne Schiewe (friend) on: Mar 12, 2017
