DAVID (DAVE) PENNER David John Penner, 73, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Dave was born June 20, 1943 in Grunthal, Manitoba, to David and Anne, living most of his life in Winnipeg. David will be sadly missed by his son David; son Derek (Kelly); grandchildren David, Claire, Rayne, Tyson and Cielle; siblings Anita, Helen, Larry, Shirley and Kimberly; and many nieces and nephews. Dave was a passionate man, always thinking about others before himself. He was a kind soul, with a good heart, a gentleman and a family man who always wanted to share a laugh or two when visiting with family and friends. Dave loved all sports, both professional and amateur. He especially loved watching his grandsons play minor hockey at the local rink and most recently Tyson who played hockey for the APHA Rangers in Charleswood. In his later years, Dave battled with neuropathy, which causes severe numbness and pain usually in the feet and hands, but he didn't let it stop him from doing the things he enjoyed. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, donations in Dave's memory may be made to support the research of neuropathy to: St-Boniface Hospital Foundation, Division of Neurodegenerative Disorders at the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, C1026-409 Taché Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Davids' passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you the family. We have fond memories of David, especially at one of our Fehr family gatherings at our home in Mitchell. We were so blessed to have him attend and share memories. Our families grow up and life takes us in different directions, but love and memories are constant and journey with us. • Dave and I grew up living across the street from each other (Mill Street). we went to school together, went swimming in the Dug Out across the field and enjoyed many other adventures together. Sometimes Melvin F would join us as well. When Dave moved to the city we did not see each other very often any more but as adults we would still get together for a coffee once in a while. So long Butch! - Posted by: Peter E Hamm (Childhood friend) on: Mar 18, 2017

  • I was so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. David was a mild-mannered, gentle soul. He was always kind and treated people with respect. I have fond memories of when he stayed with us (mom and I), we went jogging together, he explained football to me and even taught me how to dust properly (I'm still learning). I would really have loved to come to the funeral but unfortunately will be out of the country. I hope you, his family, can take comfort in the memories you have of him and the good example of the kind of person he was. - Posted by: Kim Paradis & Family (Sister) on: Mar 18, 2017

  • My condolences to Daves family. Dave worked for our family business selling motorcycles in the 70's and 80's. Dave was just a great employee and salesman and we enjoyed having him work for us. - Posted by: Ian Corbett (Friend) on: Mar 18, 2017
