Date of Passing: Mar 10, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA MARY SCHNELL (nee HAYES) On March 10, 2017, with her daughter by her side, Patricia peacefully slipped away to join her husband Johnny and infant daughter Patricia Leslie. Patricia was predeceased by her sisters Winifred, Betty, Jean, and Rosemary. She was also predeceased by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her sister Madge, daughter Janet (Rudy), son Bob (Connie), grandchildren: Robb, John (Laurhys), Rina (Brad), and great-grandchildren: Dane, Madeline, Bailey and Colby. Born in Portsmouth, England in 1924, Patricia was the second youngest of six girls. Patricia trained as a nurse during the Second World War. During this time she met and married Johnny who was a Canadian soldier in the medical corp. Patricia was one of the many war brides to come through Pier 21 in 1946 with her infant daughter. As well as raising her family in Winnipeg, Patricia retrained at night school and was employed by Sears for many years. Mum enjoyed our many family camping trips and was able to go back 'home' to England many times with and without Dad. Upon retirement they both enjoyed travelling extensively. Best known for her love of the Arts, Mum was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and quilter. She painted in oils, acrylics and watercolour, on wood and ceramics, and was an extremely accomplished china painter. Mum donated many hours to her church and served as President of the Ladies group there. She enjoyed long visits with her children and watching her grandchildren grow into adults. Her great-grandchildren were an added gift to be spoiled. Mum was known for her cheerful personality, ready smile and helping nature. We would be remiss if we did not mention her dear friends: Josie Ames and Bill and Barbara Scott whose friendship enriched all our lives. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. Doyle's Funeral Home, Carman in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralhome.ca
